I remember reading in an interview that Stephen said it was a song written for his mother. He either said they don't talk much, or he just can't say what he wants to her, thanking her, but I can't remember because it was so long ago. Beautiful, beautiful song though.

It is a song about his mother. I reminds me of mine. I grew up without anyone there as well. My mother and I raised our family. If it wasn't for her then all of us would have been doomed. I love this song. I'm in the military and when I come home again I am going to play it for my mom.
