The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.
Oh the werewolf, oh the werewolf
Comes stepping along
He don't even break the branches where he's gone
Once I saw him in the moonlight, when the bats were a flying
I saw the werewolf, and the werewolf was crying
Cryin' nobody knows, nobody knows, body knows
How I loved the man, as I teared off his clothes
Cryin' nobody know, nobody knows my pain
When I see that it's risen, that fool moon again
For the werewolf, for the werewolf has sympathy
For the werewolf, somebody like you and me
And only he goes to me, man this little flute I play
All through the night, until the light of day, and we are doomed to play
For the werewolf, for the werewolf, has sympathy
For the werewolf, somebody like you and me
Comes stepping along

This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

the most beatuiful voice EVER. ever. ever.
that's funny my (gf) who gave me this song noted that it was probably the scariest song she'd ever heard- maybe it's just the violins w/ her voice... buuuut prolly won't make love to it then
if you havent already.. watch Power Blue.. Jessica Biels scene with this song says it all.

i believe its a sexy, meloncholy song. truly amazing.
I always thought this song was Cat Power's originally but when i saw it wasn't i listened to the original by Michael Hurley and I thought it was horrible compared to Cat Power's, she has such emotion in her voice and his is so flat, its so hard to believe that this isn't Cat Power's song, she owns it
couldnt agree with you more.
i also love her cover- "Sea of Love"
just perfect.
Which Michael Hurley version did you listen to? He has three different versions on three different albums. The one on Armchair Boogie is different from Cat Power's but is still a great recording, and the one on Blue Navigator is much more similar to CP's. But I can see why the one on First Songs would be unappealing. You should at least give the Armchair Boogie version a chance if you haven't. Michael Hurley is a great artist
i just had the pleasure of discovering this song in 'Powder Blue'.. its never too late to find treasure.. <3
btw. im sure everyone who has seen that movie will agree that if it werent for Cat Powers voice and this songs lyrics.. that hot, meloncholy scene Jessica Biel performed in wouldntve been as amazing.
this is such! a good song.
Is it possible to sing this song better than she does? I really doubt it... Such a good message, such a good song.
This is my favourite, you guys are so right, it's really her song, I haven't heard the original but I can't imagine it being better than this one
About... devouring the one you love, there is no other choice because that's the specie you are. There is no other way out, and that's why it cries to the moon, yearning for what it is and doing the things it does even taking it to the limit of destroying the love of your life. Making love to this song is certainly the best, I recommend it.
I really like this song. I think that she isn't necessarily describing an actual werewolf, but just any person who is misunderstood and is only seen for their poor qualities. She then goes and says that one should have sympathy for 'monsters' since underneath, they really are just lonely people too.
it's "for the werewolf HAVE sympathy" i think
