The Passenger Lyrics

Wait, planet earthquake
Planet heartbreak, give me this day
Dates pass through a maze
Are you okay? Are you awake?
Pride, yours flies to high
Yours is to great, yours is to die
I, I'm taking no side
I'm going under, for once alive
Wait, falling airplanes

Today, my worries fade away
In suspended dream state
Somehow I knew
Erase, everything stops now

And now I crash with them
I am a bank deposit
I'm held accomplice to man's will
The faith transcending reason,
The passenger descending
And in an instant time stands still
Fade, planet heartbreak
Stop thinking

An excellent song, kind of reminds me of radio head. Bad Astronaut still has it, and this song can really prove it. Someone could say that this song deals with 9/11 "falling airplanes", but to me, it reflects on a more personal level. To me this song is more of a view personal into someone's life, as it comes crashing down. Everything is falling apart, "and now I crash with them", and he has to ride it out. "Stop Thinking, Stop Thinking, You Must Stop Thinking" refers to the mind tricks that you can play on yourself. Weither you interpret this song to be a 9/11 song or a more of an emotional song, it still has great depth and excellent musicianship.

That's how I've always interpreted the song, although I suspect it really is about 9/11 from a passenger's perspective. Joey's songs mean to me whatever I need them to mean - and since I'm very selfish I usually make the song about my own life.

To me this song is a letter from my conscience begging my impulsive side to stop with the self destruction.

I just read in an interview that joey cape wrote this song while sitting in front of his tv on 9/11. This is such a brilliant song. I just can't stop listen to it.

Not just another 9/11 song. Cape focuses like a laser beam on just one horror that day, a passenger's last seconds on one of those planes. When I listen to this song I focus more on the music. You can always tell you're watching a great silent or foreign movie when you can understand it and be captivated by it without even reading the subtitles. This song does just that, everything from the tape-loading intro (like a Lynchian black box) to a spacey slow-motion soundtrack. The lyrics are of course great too. Incredibly emotional without being loud and frantic, like most bands try to pull off.

This so far is my first and only Bad Astronaut song I have heard, but I am definitley captivated by it. I agree with everyone else that it has a radiohead type sound, which is great to begin with. And I love how his voice just glides over "The passenger descending" in almost an eerie way.

i just love the part in the middle, around 02:00 when the man is making the strange noises. it seems so desperate, although i don't know if that actually is the purpose...

strange quiet chanting sounds in this song are samples from the exercist as random fact of the day :)

This is the best song Bad Astronaut has recorded. I hope the new album gets finished. The World needs it.

definitely a 9/11 song

The man at 2:00 is shouting ‘Allah Akhbar.. Allaaah’ In arab countries it’s the daily call to prayer from the mosque, The voice is deformed because of old and dusty minaret speakers, volume turned up to the maximum Not necessarily extremist, it’s a very familiar sound in the middle east
