More Than This Lyrics
i woke up and the world outside was dark
all so quiet before the dawn
opened up the door and walked outside
the ground was cold
i walked until i couldn’t walk any more
to a place i’d never been
there was something stirring in the air
in front of me, i could see
more than this
more than this
so much more than this
there is something else there
when all that you had has all gone
and more than this
i stand
feeling so connected
and i’m all there
right next to you
it started when i saw the ship go down
i saw them struggle in the sea
and suddenly the picture disappears
in front of me
now we’re busy making all our busy plans
on foundations built to last
but nothing fades as fast as the future
and nothing clings like the past, until we can see
more than this
more than this
so much more than this
there is something out there
more than this
it’s coming through
and more than this
i stand alone and so connected
and i’m all there
right next to you
oh then it’s alright
when with every day another bit falls away
oh bus its still alright, alright, alright
and like words together we can make some sense
much more than this
way beyond imagination
much more than this
beyond the stars
with my head so full
so full of fractured pictures
and i’m all there
right next to you
so much more than this
there is something else there
when all that you had has all gone
and more than this
i’m alone
feeling so connected
and i’m all there right next to you
more than this
more than this
more than this
more than this
all so quiet before the dawn
opened up the door and walked outside

Given that the album was about life and death, to me this song is about a person's yearning to comprehend existence and reality beyond life and death, to understand more than what they sense and as a consequence to be with to those who are lost and gone, pushing to one side the notion of death and separation.
the possibilities of giving up everything you cling to and living in the present moment. peter captures it perfectly (as usual). genius.
This song always seemed like it is about a higher being, an entity we are all one in - and a longing to understand that and to be close to it.
It is a fantastic song from an amazing, underrated album.
Sometimes when I'm disgusted with myself and 'when I've gone through all I own and it's already too much', I listen to this song and am comforted by the fact that I could walk "until I couldn't walk any more", only I stay here and promise to make tomorrow more than this.
Twice when I was in elementary school I had a sort of vision thing as I was stepping into the shower (naked and free from all the reminders that society is on your back.) where I stepped out of myself and began to understand something and it was very hard to put into words, but I eventually got something pretty close and put it into a song of mine: 'there's something out there other than life'. Years later I found this song and was reminded again that humans share 99% of our biology, and that this experience that I felt can be understood and put into song by someone who came before me.
i think this song is about the fatherhood, probably the best medicine to cure selfishness, peter is describing it exactly as i felt before my first daughter born, you reach a point in your life where it becomes meaningless and dark, its as you can not get excited from things that were so exciting till now, TIME TO MOVE ON TO THE NEXT CHAPTER.
