Good Guys (Don't Wear White) Lyrics
I'm a poor boy born in a rut
Some say my manners ain't the best
Some of my friends they've been in a whole lot of trouble
Some say I'm no better than the rest
So tell your mama and your papa
Sometimes good guys don't wear white
Everyday I work hard
At night I spend a restless time
With all those rich kids and their lazy money
You can't hold a candle too mine
So tell your mama and your papa
Sometimes good guys don't wear white
Good guys bad guys which is which?
The white collar worker or digger in the ditch
Man who's to say who's the better man
Of those two I do the best I can
best I can
You thought I had a dirty mind
All the messed up chicks all the changing times
White filth and easy living
You can't come come close to the love that I've given
So tell your mama and your papa
Sometimes good guys don't wear white
They don't wear white
They don't wear white
They don't wear white
They don't wear white
Some say my manners ain't the best
Some of my friends they've been in a whole lot of trouble
Some say I'm no better than the rest
So tell your mama and your papa
Sometimes good guys don't wear white
At night I spend a restless time
With all those rich kids and their lazy money
You can't hold a candle too mine
So tell your mama and your papa
Sometimes good guys don't wear white
The white collar worker or digger in the ditch
Man who's to say who's the better man
Of those two I do the best I can
best I can
All the messed up chicks all the changing times
White filth and easy living
You can't come come close to the love that I've given
So tell your mama and your papa
Sometimes good guys don't wear white
They don't wear white
They don't wear white
They don't wear white
They don't wear white

Close, but not quite right. Try this on for size:

He's basically standing up for the working class or "blue collars". You don't have to wear a white collar to be respectable. The stereotypes are meaningless...it's the person you are, the choices you make and the way you live your life that determines whether or not you're a good guy or a bad guy. Do the best you can....and that's all you can do. That's my cheesy take on it anyways...
Good call!! I agree
Good call!! I agree
Love this song, so cheerie, as opposed to like ALL of the other stuff they've done. The original 50s song is also worth to check out, definately entertaining.
"We were painfully honest -- we didn't shoplift, we didn't vandalize, we didn't spray-paint. We were just good kids. That was our whole joke: we don't do anything -- everyone hates us just because of the way we look." --- Ian MacKaye on the DCHC scene, Our Band Could Be Your Life
This song basically means that you can't base a person's merit on his looks or on first impressions.
I don't take it that literally...after all, I've seen concert footage of Ian singing this song while wearing a white t shirt..haha
I'm a bad guy and I where white so there you go
*wear >:P
I'm a good guy. I don't wear white. Never have, never will.
