@lovessthatcoffee, I agree this is a great song, just like all of the songs on the album. Shai is awesome. Unfortunately they stopped making music as a group sometime back in the 90's. I'm not exactly sure if they have 1 or 2 more albums but I happen to own just 2. The follow-up (2nd album) just as good. And together, the 2 of them are classic, really :)

Actually, to be clear, what I meant was the initial group (Darrell,Bright,Carl Martin & Marc Gay) split sometimes in the 90's; I'm not sure of the exact timeframe, but it was right round the release of their album BlackFace (which I currently own and am actively selling :P). lol if you're interested I have it listed on ebay (speaking to anyone out there that is).

i think this is a last attempt at keeping a love that doesn't want to be loved by the lover hopefully it worked and why would you want it to be like the one who doesn't love you i'd want some one differant ...right?
Not sure, the scond verse sounds more like they're still together, if they are its odd that he's even talking baout the next person. Maybe the relationship ended amicably and he wants someone who is like her.
Or maybe he's singing to someone who is a firend, asking her to take their relationship to a more than friends status.

This interpretation could be 100% wrong - but it seems like they are still together, and he’s trying to make his SO feel better about his lack of fidelity to her. The lyrics to me seem like he is talking to his girl that he cheated on and she found out and this is his “apology” song (he knew she was the one since they met....he cherishes every moment with her and feels he doesn’t deserve her...sounds like they’re still together). Sounds like he’s giving a romantic disclaimer that although she is “the one,” he will still have other crushes - but next time, instead of physically cheating on her, he will “make sure that the lady is a friend” aka not sleep with her, or, if it goes farther and it does become a physical affair and he “falls in love so true” he’ll make “sure that the lady’s just like you,” meaning he is telling her he finds her, his significant other, to be the most physically attractive type of person (so it makes it ok to cheat I guess....
I think the story goes like this: He met a girl and connected with her. He was drawn in by her looks, but as they became friends and he got to know her, he realized she was more than just a pretty face. He ends up falling for her, and is singing this song to her, to tell her how he feels. When he says he'll be sure she's a friend, he's hinting to her that he would choose to fall in love with a friend just like her. He knows she's the right one because they're close and he trusts her, and he wants her to know that and to be with him and share his love.
It's an incredibly beautiful profession of love.
