Broke, dough, dope, the line is choked
Smoked the last dollar to her name
Are you buying?
Are you selling, girl?
Talking square, never change
Now if I really wanna know
What it means for her to be free
Oh, she's mixing cocktails
In a squat down on Avenue C

The parasitic clean on the most stained list
Ah, don't give her a fight
The teachings come in shallow so I know
There won't be no fucking rainbow in sight
And then deny allegations so strenuously
Oh man, don't get outta control
She was left wrestling in her silent anger
So hell, I can't be there for her

And I ain't looking for answers
I don't want nothing is for free
I sure don't want your respect
I just wanna know who's talking to me
I just wanna know who's talking to me

I know she's jacked on homegirl’s smack
This trepidation, it ain’t nothing new
So she fixes them, to confuse them,
To annoy them, girl, that's what you do
She regulates, she concentrates, she don’t know what’s
Unstoppable for you and me
She won't relinquish herself to you, unless its an emergency

She can cry, she can hide in the lower east side
There's a road in the fast lane cursed
Above all the infamous, wicked circus of the fools
And if I really want to know how the pernicious stay on top
Oh they don't break, no they don't fake
They leave no wake
They don't stop

And I ain't looking for answers
I don't want nothing is for free
I sure don't want your respect
I just wanna know who's talking to me
I just wanna know who's talking to me
I just wanna know who's in front of me
I just wanna know who's talking to me

"Tompkins Square never changed" Tompkins Square is a park in Manhattan that is well known for being the place where a person can buy and sell drugs. " In a squat, down Avenue "C", Lord have mercy" Avenue "C" is a street in Manhattan

Yeah, its about a junkie girl that lives in Manhattan. One of my favorites songs by Rancid. The harmonica combines very well with the melody. And Tim voice´s do the rest.

    But the lyrics are incomplete.

Still not sure on a few details, but it's slightly better than what's above.

This song has great structure with the Harmonica that adds a lot. And Tims vocals add more. One of my favourite songs.

Ahh first of all, fucking amazing song. Tim Armstrong can be pretty damn awesome.

And I'll see what I can do for the lyrics, building off skacore_dude's entry.

can be shallow so, I know There won't be no fucking rainbow in sight And they deny allegations those journalists make Oh man, they'll get outta control She was left in a silent anger So elegant and beautiful

I know she's jacked on whore-girl smack And trepidation ain't nothing new So she ____ them to confuse them, To annoy them, that's what she'll do She regulates, she concentrates, she don't know [all the live versions say 'know', it sounds different on the CD] What's unstoppable for you and me She won't relinquish herself to you Unless it's an emergency

Sorry I can't get everything, but I was listening to the CD and two videos of them live and figured out what I could.

Some might say I have no life, since I just did that for a half hour. Some might be right.

im surprised no ones mentioned Leftover Crack for this song. LOC and the whole crack rock steady crew originated on avenue c at C-Squat in new york. they've had some infamous shows (cracktoberfest) in tompkins square park.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
