Olympia WA Lyrics

Hangin' out with Lars on 6th street
He knew that I was in trouble
I was feeling much like the devil
There was something burnin' deep inside of me
Ran into three Puerto Ricans
These girls took us to the funhouse
Where we played a lonely pinball machine

Hangin' on the corner of 52nd and Broadway
Cars passin' by but none of them seem to be goin' my way
New York City, well I wish I was on a highway
Back to Olympia...

I'm having a hard time understanding
It gets all too demanding
She's all gone and I'm stranded
Something burning deep inside of me
All I know it's 4'o'clock and
She ain't never showed up and
I watched a thousand people go home from work

Hangin' on the corner of 52nd and Broadway
Cars passin' by but none of them seem to be goin' my way
New York City, well I wish I was on a highway
Back to Olympia...

How many times will it take me
Before I go crazy
Before I lose everything
Something burning deep inside of me
Ran into three Puerto Ricans
Those girls took us to the funhouse
I don't wanna be alone again.

Hangin' on the corner of 52nd and Broadway
Cars passin' by but none of them seem to be goin' my way
New York City, well I wish I was on a highway
Back to Olympia...

That damn Tobi Vail... This song gets written about her... like half of Nevermind by Nirvana was written about her..

Anyway, I live in Olympia... and it's not all that great. So shut up.

This is my favorite song... well ever. Of course I am from Olympia, WA and was a part of the punk rock scene in my adolescence so I could be biased...

The feeling I get from this song is mostly about how Tim feels out of place in a big city such as New York. The Olympia punk rock scene was much like the east bay scene at the time. The Capitol Theatre in Olympia would pack out every weekend for a 3 dollar punk rock show and that feeling of belonging just couldn't be beat.

retard...there's a lot of stuff we SHOULD do, isn't there? you phrased that so moronically, it makes me almost hate you. don't tell us what we should and shouldn't listen to. you could say that you recommend stuff, or that we should check it out...but god you sound like an asshole. and i'm sure that right now, i do too. whatever.

oh gosh im 8 years late, but u sound like ur picking a fight, leave him the fuck alone, u know wat he meant

assholes aside, this is a kickass song. It's pretty melodic which is good. Sounds like a song about not being comfortable with your surroundings. like homesickness or being in the business of a city like NY just depresses you seeing how needlessly hectic some people's lives can be and it makes you appreciate your lifestyle and where you're from. and the NOFX cover just killed the melancholy mood :(

First off I like both versions they are both great!. but the nofx version i believe capture the true feeling of the song and it is the one cover they did justice too. and your a moron if you think that this version sux i bet if this one came out first you would have just the opposite feelings. fat mike made the song sadder exspecially the end of the last verse where he says i dont want to be alone again, it truelly conveyed alot of feelign in it. but i think the song is about being away from home and how sometimes when you are homesick you feel alone because nothing around you is familiar to you. and you feel a sense of being out on your own. and the only person that you can depend on is yourself, life on the road gets depressing exspecially seeing people doing their job and being able to go home after they are done. its a truelly great song and conveys a sense of lonelieness. and both versions do justice to the song they are both great but just because fat mike added more melody and emotion to it doesnt warrant it for a "it sux" label. cause then you are just being nieve just because it isnt the original

This song is obviously about loneliness.

It's hard to say what everything means. However, one thing is clear, Tim isn't actually alone in the song. Lars is there. So are three Puerto Ricans. It's not that kind of loneliness. You could be in a room with a hundred people and feel lonely. You could be in a city, watching a thousand people go home from work, and feel lonely. One could say that you feel even more lonely that way.

However, Tim is still with Lars. So the song isn't just about being lonely. It's about that unexplainable loneliness. The best he can do to describe it is say that there's "something burning deep inside of [him]." He knows he feels alone, but he doesn't really know why. Though he does know that the city isn't making him feel any less lonely.
