Blackbirds Vs. Crows Lyrics
Stormbirds drifting on a pool at rest
Then come waves they just cant crest
Once their in the air it's a search for the
kill, thinking "if I dont do it someone else
will", till the war mandates fulfilled.
Woah can you see
can you see them flying
They look to be the same breed
but they cant stop fighting
Flying in the night under enemy sights,
Looking for targets in a blind firefight-
Whats at theend of the road?
-for blackbirds vs. crows
Lets go down to the shipyard
Pick through the hulks for awhile
See if we can find some kings and queens
down there in the discard pile
They let their foes prevail, they let their
battlements break
Children learn to keep your finger on the
trigger stay ready to make that big mistake
I think there's got to be more to this life
than kill or be killed
Then come waves they just cant crest
Once their in the air it's a search for the
kill, thinking "if I dont do it someone else
will", till the war mandates fulfilled.
can you see them flying
They look to be the same breed
but they cant stop fighting
Flying in the night under enemy sights,
Looking for targets in a blind firefight-
Whats at theend of the road?

i love this song. Jesse Michaels owns you all!!! i think it just means like, people wage wars, without even knowing what they're fighting for. just like blackbirds and crows don't really have a reason to fight, . . . . they just . . do.
"i think there's got to be more to this life than kill or be killed" . . . . that pretty much sums it up.
I first heard this song on the Fall 2002 Sampler I got from Hopeless/Subcity Records when I bought "Midwestern Songs of the Americas." It's pretty damn good.
d4 rocks.
gang/turf/inner city warfare i believe.
I think this song is about people in general, fighting against eachother. "They look to be the same breed but they can't stop fighting", like different races go to war with eachother but really they're of the "same breed", we're all human beings.
"there's got to be more to this life than kill or be killed" - amazing line.
I'm pretty sure the chorus is "Look can you see?"
Definitly a song about racism, religious and cultural intolerance, sexism and all of that.
Plain and simple, this song is about war. Blackbirds vs. crows, dogs vs. coyotes, hamsters vs. moles.... Common Rider is trying to show that we fight against our "enemies" but really they are very similar to us. This is a great song- super catchy and a great message... I love (loved) these guys.
