Spread a Little Happiness Lyrics
Even when the darkest clouds are in the sky
You mustn't sigh and you mustn't cry
Spread a little happiness as you go by
Please try
What's the use of worrying and feeling blue
When days are long keep on smiling through
Spread a little happiness till dreams come true
Surely you'll be wise to make the best of every blues day
Don't you realize you'll find next Monday or next Tuesday
Your golden shoes day
Even when the darkest clouds are in the sky
You mustn't sigh and you mustn't cry
Spread a little happiness as you go by
I've got a creed for every need
So easy that it must succeed
I'll set it down for you to read
So please, take heed
Keep out the gloom
Let in the sun
That's my advice for everyon
It's only once we pass this way
So day by day
Even when the darkest clouds are in the sky
You mustn't sigh and you mustn't cry
Spread a little happiness as you go by
Please try

Sounds like the balance side to King of Pain. Sting feeling happy. He probably didn't continue on this giddy bent because it's not the best mindset for a song writer who wishes to be taken seriously and isn't that weird ... We all want to be happy but drag in too much happiness and people say, ick! I'm going to be sick. Guess you can have too much of a good thing ,,,
I agree with sillybunny, though I have to say that this song is my guilty pleasure. Just a general happy-whappy feel good song.
I'm not sure if he was really happy when he wrote this. I think he just tried to write one of those happy-whappy nice tunes with some 50's feeling to it. The melody and the lyrics and the whistling and all, it reminds me of "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head".
I think every now and then Sting wanted and tried something that was not his usual style, whether it was just for fun or whether he saw it as a way of developing as a song writer. Like he said he wrote "De Do Do Do..." because he was interested in what attracts us to those simple phrases like "Do Wah Diddy".
Whatever his reasons were to write this, I like the song but even more the video for it (Sting as a dancing priest, oh my Lord).
