Sympathy for the Strawberry Lyrics
Let me introduce you
since you saw my shadow self
living underneath you
<i>over here</i>
She can't resist a tickle
<i>I'm a Girlscout
searching for the new stuff</i>
Did I mention that it melts away (allgone)
She puts a sign out
"Out of Order" (I want a buidling that says)
Makes you strongly disobey
Guiding you away
Chiding you away
So quick to hide when I turn around
she will rise just to embarrass me
She likes to dance when its dark inside
Just a flashlight there
for a guide
Try and catch me if you can
free and wild
watch where you stand
below the net
Desire it grows and grows
like a strawberry, not a rose
Prickly patch don't you stand on me
Squishing down
(<i>ahh!</i>)
In the mud
ahh..
since you saw my shadow self
living underneath you
<i>over here</i>
She can't resist a tickle
<i>I'm a Girlscout
searching for the new stuff</i>
She puts a sign out
"Out of Order" (I want a buidling that says)
Makes you strongly disobey
Guiding you away
Chiding you away
she will rise just to embarrass me
She likes to dance when its dark inside
Just a flashlight there
for a guide
Try and catch me if you can
free and wild
watch where you stand
below the net
Desire it grows and grows
like a strawberry, not a rose
Prickly patch don't you stand on me
Squishing down
(<i>ahh!</i>)
In the mud
ahh..

Maybe they're talking about Thurston and Kim's daughter.
I think this song describes a sibling that lives in the shadow of his/her other sibling. Some lines that support this: "Let me introduce you...tickle out", "She will rise just to embarrass me", & "Desire it grows and grows, like a strawberry, not a rose." That last one really shouts the meaning out at me, saying that the shadowed sibling is not the rose the other is.
yeah that's definitely what i first thought of when i heard this song. the lyrics about nets & strawberries - the cover image of murray street is a cute as photo of coco (their daughter) and her friend picking strawberries. :]
very beautiful.
Kim plays the central guitar hook in the track...one of those simple but effective repeating riffs that totally makes the song. She had a similarly simple yet equally effective repeating guitar phrase in Nevermind (What Was It Anyway) on the album New York City Ghosts & Flowers.
