To me, this song is about a woman who has had her heart broken so many times it feels like it just can't be broken again. She promises herself 'never again', that she won't let anyone that close or into her heart. Then she meets some sweet talking man and she tries to keep him out, but finally she gives in and tries love again. She's so scared though that that hurt will return, and she tries to let him closer, just to be hurt again.
This is Pats best song in my opinion....the lyrics speak forthemselves.
I think this is a subtle love song Rather than the narrator telling the protagonist she loves him, though She speaks of all of his meaningless flings with girls Who gave him fake promises that they cared In a sort of undertoned attempt to tell him that she cares about him More than that.
