There's a Picasso picture of a minotaur with a bride and dead mare. Syd would have known it, as an art student. I think there's a clue in the name Maisie, (Maze-ey) as well.

Erk! This should be about a dyslexic girl called Maisie, or Mai for short, who meets a charming young lad who instantly falls for her. She is a brilliant actress and he knows that she will one day be famous. Unfortunately, being 345 days older than him, she has to go to college while he's still stuck at secondary school. He loves her but never has the chance to tell her and now he's lost his mind because their correspondance has broken down. At least that what it means to me. Love you Mai!
