Goodbye Lyrics
Sometimes I've been afraid to say the words
Sometimes I've been willing to lie
Sometimes you've been so afraid to see what I really need, what I really need
I don't care anymore, say what you wanna say, I'll still say goodbye
I don't care anymore, can't give another day, it's too late
Sometimes you need more than too much of me
Sometimes you give nothing back
What did you think? I would just hang around and watch you take?
Sometimes you give nothing at all
Sometimes I've been so afraid to see what I really need, what I really need
I don't care anymore, say what you wanna say, I'll still say goodbye
I don't care anymore, can't give another day, it's too late
Sometimes I've been willing to lie
Sometimes you've been so afraid to see what I really need, what I really need
I don't care anymore, can't give another day, it's too late
Sometimes you give nothing back
What did you think? I would just hang around and watch you take?
Sometimes you give nothing at all
Sometimes I've been so afraid to see what I really need, what I really need
I don't care anymore, can't give another day, it's too late

i think this song is about realizing that you can only give so much in a relationship without receiving anything before you just have to leave.
I love this song. There's a problem with the lyrics, though. The first verse should go:
"Sometimes I've been afraid to say the words / Sometimes I've been willing to lie / Sometimes I've been ready to tell you what you want to hear and / Sometimes I've been willing to lie / Sometimes you've been so afraid to see what I really need / What I really need"
Yet another Rent connection. It makes me think of Roger and Mimi and how Mimi uses Roger for sex, food, shelter, and maybe stealing some of his cash to get drugs, and finally he says, "ENOUGH." Yeah. Must. Stop. Making. Rent. Connections.
I think it could be about Todd, his boyfriend during the stage production of RENT. He mentioned in his book "Without You" that Todd took a lot from the relationship, but, at least in Anthony's opinion, didn't give when Anthony needed support after his mom's death. But neither one wanted to leave because each loved the other in his own way.
