Wounds of Love Lyrics

It's a quarter 'til tomorrow
And it's only half past yesterday
The here and the now
Done come and gone
It's gone away

And the moon over Atlanta winks
And nods its head for a long good night
And I don't know where you are
And I don't know how you're sleeping
But I sure do hope that you're alright

CHORUS:
And may the angel of His presence keep your heart
And when your prayers give flight to your dreams
May the only scars you see on their wings
Be the wounds of love
Be the wounds of love

The bottle is still so full
There's no one here to turn the tap
So much in me wants to reach out and hold you
But you're so far away I can't do that

And the dark comes through these windows on the wind
Makes those votives glow more brilliantly
Well, if passion can lead to prayer
Maybe prayer can give us faith
And if faith is all we've got
Then maybe faith is all we need

CHORUS

Wounds of love

And the moon over Atlanta winks
And he nods his head for a long good night
And I don't know where you are
And I don't know how you're sleeping
But I sure do hope to God that you're alright

CHORUS

Be the wounds of love
Be the wounds of love

Cover art for Wounds of Love lyrics by Rich Mullins

The invisible spiritual escorts, protectors, angels God has watching over us...Jesus said we had "guardian" angels assigned to us....they cover you and I with their wings...our prayers get flight--perhaps are in some way in the spiritual realm carreid, born on wings--our dreams sometimes come as revelations from God, and perhaps our prayers to God spark dreams as well..we are made in God\'s image afterall, and the divine resides or appears or dabbles in our dream life (waking or sleeping sometimes...sometimes pizza) and the scars that we see on our dreams\' wings may be unanswered prayers/dreams that are wounds of love because God knows best, and His will is best--better than our dreams...like the country song thanking God for unanswered prayers....the wounds of love are scars because our dreams have been knocked down..unfulfiled by God but its an act of love because He knows best....May His kingdom come and His Will be done on earth as it is in heaven....coming to peace with our finite, we-dont-know or our hear-does-not-desire or fix on what is really best for us....this reality....\n\nAnother interpretation I have speculated that Rich Mullins (my favorite songwriter of all time) may have been intimating was the protective aspect of the angel of His presence (God\'s presence of course) and/or our guardian angel sent from God for each of us....that picture of their wings being scarred, but why? perhaps from protecting us under the shadow of their wings, covering us with their wings (like a hen covers her chicks) and the sharp, nasty talons and attacks from harmful evil forces (demonic, fallen angels, etc.) that are trying, but not succeeding in reaching us, because the angel of his presence, in an ACT of LOVE, has taken the blows for us and we see the wounds of love...loving us these protectors have received and deflected and diverted the blows intended for us...wounds of love....either we are our own worst enemies and our misdirected or less-than-God\'s perfect and all knowing superior will and plan prayers for our lives are what result in the scars--perhaps shot down by God\'s divine hand (via another angel, maybe?) , or the wounds and resulting scars derive from some external battle where our angel of his presence has taken the blow...\n\nWhen you read the lyrics which direct the verses to some distant friend, who is out there somewhere out of reach, unknown where they are and how they are doing, it seems to echo Rich Mullins\' unrequited desires or love or compassion and friendship and concern for some one he knows and cares for and their well being\n\nI sure do hope that you\'re alright....\n\nSteven Todd\ncarrythesongs@gmail.com

@CarrytheSongs \r\n\r\nthe email is carrythesongs@gmail.com off course carry the songs is a title from one of Rich\'s songs that sort of crystalizes for me my fandom of his poetic and whimsical but profound life\'s work--he died in a fiery crash in the 1990s....his work is timeless and soul stirring to me....
