Old Piano Lyrics

What's that you're saying there? Oh well
Rain rushing window pane
Can't see what space I'm in, oh well
But I'm safe inside me here, oh well

Maybe whe woke up after a crazy night with someone and doesn't know where she is...it's night, she looks outside the window, its raining...she can't see the space she's in but feels safe, so oh well, she just goes to back to sleep....

The most beautiful song ever. I think it's just all about feeling lost.. and depressed and confused, which is why she keeps saying 'oh well', like she's too weak to find out, and can't be bothered to do anything. The song portrays a sense of insecurity. It mightn't even mean anything, but the music is amazingly beautiful. When I listen to it, I just feel like staying at home, looking out a window on a rainy day and playing the piano. =]

I love it

It makes you dreamy and sad, but not too sad

Beautiful song, one of my favorites from her =]...

It does sound like she may be depressed, but it also sounds like it's not bothering her too much. I mean to me it sounds like she's just woken up kind of hazy and not sure how she got to this place, but it's not bothering her because its a safe enough place for her to lose herself and not think of her current situation (hence the "oh well" part). Kind of like billy collins poem "saturday morning"

I'm going to come at this song from a purely personal point of view. I first fell in love with this song because I love simple vocals over piano and a friend told me I say "oh well' a lot. I never really thought of it much but saying oh well is my way of coping with the world. Like this song it creates a safe place for me but numbs me to the world. A lot of times I let things go that I really shouldn't. But I'm safe inside me here.

Beautiful song. I agree with lg135 and Themeaning with this. She's woken up, and doesn't know where she's at, but she feels safe and is away from her problems so it's all right.

i feel like it's not about waking up, but about hiding in yourself maybe it's because that's how i relate to it "what's that you're saying there? oh well" she casts off the words of others, the whispers of others (if it was clearly and audibly spoken she wouldn't have to ask what was said) to keep herself from harm it's like she's living in an eggshell the rain blocks her view from the outside world she can't see where she is and she doesn't care she's safe within herself because no judgment lies there

she doesn't care anymore that is her safety net, and it is a good one, except it keeps her from truly enjoying anything so she will always be stuck in the rain
