Walk Away Renee Lyrics
And when I see the sign that points one way
The lot we used to pass by every day
Just walk away Renee
You won't see me follow you back home
The empty sidewalks on my block are not the same
You're not to blame
From deep inside the tears that I'm forced to cry
From deep inside the pain that I chose to hide
Just walk away Renee
You won't see me follow you back home
Now as the rain beats down upon my weary eyes
For me it cries
Just walk away Renee
You won't see me follow you back home
Now as the rain beats down upon my weary eyes
For me it cries
Your name and mine inside a heart upon a wall
Still finds a way to haunt me, though they're so small
Just walk away Renee
You won't see me follow you back home
The empty sidewalks on my block are not the same
You're not to blame
The lot we used to pass by every day
You won't see me follow you back home
The empty sidewalks on my block are not the same
You're not to blame
From deep inside the pain that I chose to hide
You won't see me follow you back home
Now as the rain beats down upon my weary eyes
For me it cries
You won't see me follow you back home
Now as the rain beats down upon my weary eyes
For me it cries
Still finds a way to haunt me, though they're so small
You won't see me follow you back home
The empty sidewalks on my block are not the same
You're not to blame

I just read this:
"...Michael Brown, wrote the song when he was 16 years old, and it was about fellow band member Tom Finn’s girlfriend, who he fell in love with. He says when they went to record the song “My hands were shaking when I tried to play, because she was right there in the control room. There was no way I could do it with her around, so I came back and did it later.”
It's a song about a 16 year old boy coming to the realization the 19 year old platinum blond he has a crush on, just isn't in to him.
I think its about ducks.
So depressing makes me cry sometimes.
Renee Fladen-Kamm went on to become a classical singer and vocal teacher in San Francisco. Yes, it's a song about a real girl, a real crush. She had platinum blond hair; the Left Banke song "Pretty Ballerina" was also about her.
Apparently the flute solo in this song is inspired by the similar but lengthier one in California Dreamin'. This song in turn inspired Boston's More Than a Feeling, which later inspired Smells Like Teen Spirit.
A gorgeous tune, a hit back in the 60s but no doubt underrated today if you look at other baroque pop hits. I wonder if the real Renee thought anything of this song.
@JohnnyLurg The real Renee found out it was about her about a year after it was released and that she was actually in the studio the day that they recorded it! She was the blonde girlfriend of the guys best friend and band mate! Scotty

This is my mom's all time favorite song. Being alone and constantly reminded of it must suck. Left Banke, they were really one hit wonders. I wonder what ever happened to them...?
I believe it's "the LOT we used to pass by every day," though I don't think it really alters the meaning of the song. Additionally, the line after "...upon my weary eyes" is "For me it cries."
I don't think one can get enough of songs about unrequited love. I love the chorus, despite the dreary subject matter.
You would never know that the 1960s were teen heaven from this song. It is very effectively morbid, lyrics, music, the way it is sung. You would swear that this is a guy who's long time wife is dead so he wallows in sadness by hanging around the places they used to walk together. What is astounding is the musical sophistication of a 16 year old, at least for one shot. One of the greatest one hit wonders.
