Hollywood Squares Lyrics

game over, you win
game over, i win

the sleigh bells are a-ringing the children they are singing
the memories are fleeting, a little game of paper scissors rock

the wedding bells are ringing the shot gun is a-singing now your fingers steady, a little game of paper scissors rock

you are my lucky penny my local anesthetic
ritual bloodletting we play a game of paper scissors rock

a lion tamer yelling your first piano lesson
a 4-leaf contraceptive, we play a game of paper scissors rock

o's and x's
hollywood squares
x's and o's
bloody tic-tac-toe

not in your song
i'm not your singer
not in your poem
i'm not your stanze
i'm not a color in your rainbow
but now which team
are you rooting for?

We're hollywood squares
We're going nowhere

I'm an 'X'
you're an 'O'

And this is the end...

The End.

The new stuff does not "suck" at all.

The song is called Hollywood Squares. Go out and buy a real copy of the album and you would know this.

Come to Daddy was the worst off of Irony is a Dead Scene. And this song is all about how everything is left to chance, though I can't decipher the rest.

OK, first of all, I have to say that whoever this keith guy is obviously has no taste for artful expression. Miss Machine is the best thing to come out of New Jersey's collective sphincter. Period.

Anyway, onto the meaning: anyone ever seen Wonder Showzen season one on MTV2? Episode 2 has a scene where Chauncey plays Paper-Rock-Scissors against God for the fate of the earth. That makes me think this song is about religion and the uselessness of prayer. God is the "lucky penny," "lion tamer," and "4-leaf contraceptive." Prayer is basically based on a fifty-fifty system of luck. No matter what superstition you choose, your prayers are going to be "answered" at about the same rate. Plus, prayer completely defies the so-called "divine plan." So really, prayer is "going nowhere."

If you want more information on this stuff, listen to "You Are All Diseased" by George Carlin. Funny guy.

good god! they actually opened for AFI!!?!?!?!? Jesus that's sooooo wrong.

Anyway, this song is about America's undying obsession with celebrity. From the magazine covers spewed across the checkout aisles of grocery stores to the constant gelam of them glossed on their Televison screens. But it works both ways, considering Celebrities are held at such a godly position, they crave to be brought down to human level. But when it comes down to it, we're all just Hollywood squares, dying to make it somewhere, dying to have our faces seen in the right or wrong places. But in reality, we're just going nowhere. THE END
