Sitting on Top of the World (Mississippi Sheiks cover) Lyrics
One summer day, she went away
Gone and left me, she's gone to stay.
She's gone, but I don't worry,
I'm sittin' on top of the world.
All the summer, worked on this farm
Had to take Christmas in my overalls.
She's gone, but I don't worry,
I'm sittin' on top of the world.
Going down to the freight yard,
Gonna catch me a freight train.
Gonna leave this town,
Work done got to hard.
She's gone, but I don't worry,
I'm sittin' on top of the world.
Gone and left me, she's gone to stay.
She's gone, but I don't worry,
I'm sittin' on top of the world.
Had to take Christmas in my overalls.
She's gone, but I don't worry,
I'm sittin' on top of the world.
Gonna catch me a freight train.
Gonna leave this town,
Work done got to hard.
She's gone, but I don't worry,
I'm sittin' on top of the world.

this is a blues song fo sure. not really much else to it.. pure & simple.. it is about rationalization of your relationship or life falling apart -- it's about survival and what you will do to survive. you will do damn near anything won't you -- you blood sucking vampires! this is a beautiful song.
This is a traditional song, most famously recorded by The Mississippi Sheiks in 1930, has been played and recorded many times by many artists across the Country, Blues, Folk and Bluegrass genras.
NO COMMENTS! this song rocks!
i know not best of vocals but music is awesome!
After the millionth or so time listening to it...it still keeps getting better.
amazing, amazing, amazing!!!!! agree with johnb2112! it keeps getting better and better, neverming how many times you listen to it!
btw third verse the man clearly said " gonna leave this town , work done got too hard" With that being said i think this song is a about a young mans mother dying unexpectedly thus giving him that "life falling apart" feeling but he doesnt care anymore because hes doing wonderful things... think about It! i dunno. Some brilliant blues tho!
Reminds me of firing up seconal in a bean field in 1971.
Seconals as in "reds?" Firing up as a means of delivery?
