Philadelphia Lyrics
Sometimes I think that I know
What love's all about
And when I see the light
I know I'll be all right.
I've got my friends in the world
I had my friends
When we were boys and girls
And the secrets came unfurled
City of brotherly love
Place I call home
Don't turn your back on me
I don't want to be alone
Love lasts forever
Someone is talking to me
Calling my name
Tell me I'm not to blame
I won't be ashamed of love
Philadelphia
City of brotherly love
Brotherly love
Sometimes I think that I know
What love's all about
And when I see the light
I know I'll be all right
Philadelphia
What love's all about
And when I see the light
I know I'll be all right.
I had my friends
When we were boys and girls
And the secrets came unfurled
Place I call home
Don't turn your back on me
I don't want to be alone
Love lasts forever
Calling my name
Tell me I'm not to blame
I won't be ashamed of love
City of brotherly love
Brotherly love
What love's all about
And when I see the light
I know I'll be all right

This song + the movie Philadelphia made some people being choking up in the room when we watched it ;)
when this song plays in the film, its at the wake of the person who's died from AIDS....i've seen the film about 4 times and i still cry.
the last two lines- "And when I see the light I know I'll be all right" make me think of going 2 heaven or just dying. and "im not ashamed of love" makes me think of the fact that the main character is gay.
Oh man, did Neil get cheated out of the Oscar or what? Amazing song..Almost brings me to tears when I hear it..Philedelphia, great movie too.
@JoE][BoXeR Bruce was pretty gracious when he accepted the Oscar, said he'd share it with Neil. Pretty sure he recognized Neil's song as the masterpiece it is. I'm a big Bruce fan and think Streets of Philadelphia is a GOOD song, but NY's contribution is a heartbreaker and tearjerker, especially when Played in the film with the home movies showing. I'm getting a lump in my throats just thinking it. One of a few excellent Neil Young-Jonathan Demme collabs.
