Everybody's Happy Nowadays Lyrics

i was so tired of being upset
always wanting something i never could get
life's an illusion love is a dream
but i don't know what it is

everybody's happy nowadays
everybody's happy nowadays

i was so tired of being upset
always wanting something i never could get
life's an illusion love is a dream
but i don't know what it is

'cos everybody's happy nowadays
everybody's happy nowadays

life's an illusion love is the dream
but i don't know what it is
everyone's saying things to me but i know it's okay
okay

everybody's happy nowadays
everybody's happy nowadays
everybody's happy nowadays
everybody's happy nowadays

life's an illusion love is a dream
life's an illusion love is the dream
life's the illusion love is a dream
ife's the illusion love is the dream

everybody's happy nowadays
everybody's happy nowadays

todays are good bet you are tired of being upset
always wanting something you never can get

Cover art for Everybody's Happy Nowadays lyrics by Buzzcocks

one of buzzcocks greatest ! pure punk and pure pop at the same time, nobody made it so perfect ! the title phrase is taken from the essential book by Aldous Huxley... sorry, I'm French and I don't know its name in English, in French that's "Le meilleur des mondes". One of the characters in that book isn't "normal", he can't help being sad and disgusted by the supposedly ideal world in which he lives. Men and women are led by pure lust and no love, and to that man, people tend to be just machines that fuck together... He briefly tells a woman about his hatred of the way things are, but she can't understand it, she's been formated not to feel any sentiment, no fear no hate no deep melancholy. So she asks him : "How can you tell that ? Everybody's happy nowadays."

In case anyone is wondering, 'Le Meilleur des mondes' is the French version of Huxley's 'Brave New World'.

always sounds like the vocals are totally off key on this song , but thats its charm, catchy, cynical and pure buzzcocks, great top of the pops appearance still makes me laugh at how strange pete shelley looks with £8 in his top coat pocket and doing a strange body jiggle as if naked without his guitar.
