I Think We're Alone Now Lyrics
Children behave
that's what they say when we're together
and watch how you play
they don't understand
and so we're running just as fast we can
holding onto one another's hand
trying to get away into the night
and then you put your arms around me
as we tumble to the ground
and then we say
Chorus:
I think we're alone now
There dosen't seem to be anyone around
I think we're alone now
The beating of our hearts is the only sound
Look at the way
We gotta hide what we're doing
Cause what would they say
If they ever knew
and so we're running just as fast as we can
holding onto one another's hand
trying to get away into the night
and then you put your arms around me
as we tumble to the ground
and then we say
chorus
that's what they say when we're together
and watch how you play
they don't understand
and so we're running just as fast we can
holding onto one another's hand
trying to get away into the night
and then you put your arms around me
as we tumble to the ground
and then we say
I think we're alone now
There dosen't seem to be anyone around
I think we're alone now

Yeah, secret relationship anyone? The adults probably don't know how far this "friendship" has gone... "children... watch how you play", or they know what might happen and are trying to prevent something: "I think we're alone now, there doesn't seem to be anyone around..." and " Look at the way We gotta hide what we're doing Cause what would they say If they ever knew "
Yep, it's about keeping your relationship hidden.
Most likely from their parents because they are younger or from opposite sides of the tracks.
I think it also has to do with teenage lust and thinking adults and parents don't understand the excitement of "experimenting"
i think that its just about loving someone, but the families dont aprove, and that the "children behave" is sorta meant to express how they feel that they are treated. could be that they are teens, but its not necessarily so.
@jkid1190 I don't think their parents 'don't approve' I just think they're conservative. So sneaking away to make out is the only way they can be together without their parents watching over them.

I know, I've been there, my dad's best mate's daughter, we were 14 and whenever our parents got together for an event we'd sneak off somewhere dark and make out like crazy... Good days.

@jkid1190 I is truly about a "parents don'y approve" relationship. Because this song was originally written and done in the 1940's. It was done by a black female singer and was originally about a white boy and a black girl! So in that aspect I'm pretty sure most of the VERY RACIST 45 supporters would still "not approve"!

There is a really awsome punk cover by a band called Snuff. Here's the youtube link to take a listen:

This song is much older than you think! Tommy James did it as a cover that was originally done by a black female singer (I can't recall right now which one) it was done in the early 50's. And it was about a black girl and a white boy. So it was definitely about FORBIDDEN love! All other Tommy James songs are about drugs. This was just a cover to fill until it became a hit! Scotty
@scottyboyd - actually, that's false. It was written by Ritchie Cordell (who also wrote "Mony Mony" and many other Tommy James songs), specifically for Tommy James and the Shondells. Tommy James recorded the vocals on Christmas Eve 1966, and it's first ever release was in 1967.
