O Caritas Lyrics

hunc ornatum mundi
nolo perdere
video flagrare
omnia res
audio clamare
homines
nune extinguitur
mund(i) et astrorum lamen
nune concipitur
mali hominis crimen
tristetat(e) et lacrimis
gravis est dolor
de terraeque maribus
magnus est clamor
O caritas, O caritas
nobis semper sit amor
mos perituri mortem salutamus
sola resurgit vita
Ah, this world is burning fast
Oh, the world will never last
I don't want to lost it here in my time
Give me time forever here in my time.

Translation of Latin:
(I don't want to lose the harmony of the universe
I see all things... burning, I hear men... shouting.
Now is the light of the world and the stars going out
Now does the blame for the disaster fall upon men.
Grief is heavy with sadness and tears
Great is the noise from the earth and the seas
O love, O love be with us always.
We who will perish salute death. Life alone goes on.)

I loved this song for it's music first (essentially because, hey, i don't speak latin!) but after learning the translation from www.majicat.com, this song struck me deep. Especiall this past year, this song has become real on so many levels for me. The world is in turmoil at the hands of selfish and terrible men, but "love will always be with us". The music itself is so passionate. Latin language, Latin music...makes sense. There is a driving force behind this song that carries the listener.

"Ah, this world is burning fast Oh, this world will never last" These lyrics could never be more timely, although arguably much too late for many, if ultimately not all of us, our children and our children's children. I pray that Donald Trump finally sees the light and understands how global warming is changing our world... and I pray for the people in Greece, and Sweden and for all those whose lives have been cut short by what humankind has initiated.

This song is the eighth song on Cat Stevens' Catch Bull at Four album. The eighth bull stage of Zen is ego death. This song is about ego death or reaching Nirvana while on earth. If your Christian, ego death is represented by the crucifixion; that is why he sang it in Latin. Rebirth or resurrection is the ninth bull stage of Zen. Song nine on the album is entitled Sweet Scarlet and it was about his lost love for Carly Simon, and how it could possibly be rekindled. Death and rebirth.
