Miles From Nowhere Lyrics

Miles from nowhere
I guess I'll take my time
Oh yeah, to reach there

Look up at the mountain
I have to climb
Oh yeah, to reach there.

Lord my body has been a good friend
But I won't need it when I reach the end

Miles from nowhere
Guess I'll take my time
Oh yeah, to reach there

I creep through the valleys
And I grope through the woods
'cause I know when I find it my honey
It's gonna make me feel good

I love everything
So don't it make you feel sad
'cause I'll drink to you, my baby
I'll think to that, I'll think to that.

Miles from nowhere
Not a soul in sight
Oh yeah, but it's alright

I have my freedom
I can make my own rules
Oh yeah, the ones that I choose

Lord my body has been a good friend
But I won't need it when I reach the end

Miles from nowhere
I Guess I'll take my time
Oh yeah, to reach there.

i think its about just kind of taking life as it comes, not rushing it, and just realizing what you have. its very accepting of both life and death and grateful for the experience of life. one of those lines that just sticks in your head "lord my body has been a good frieheend, but i wont need it when i reach the end." really shows a freedom of spirit and love of everything around that he is able to take in, even though in the end it all wont matter.

I agree! It's just about taking everything one day at a time and appreciating what you have at the moment, rather than trying to rush through life and accomplish the next big thing.

This song is perhaps my favourite Cat Stevens tune. It is extremely spiritual. It doesn't matter what faith you hold to (I'm a Christian), this track reminds you that you are just a pilgrim in this physical world... you're just passing through the pain and hurt right now... a long way from your spiritual home... but one day you WILL return to your FATHER'S HOUSE where a ROOM awaits you (to paraphrase Jesus)... a place where your physical body will no longer plague you with aches and pains and sickness. THEN everything will make sense and be perfect, but in the meantime we're all simply MILES FROM NOWHERE.

My brother-in-law opened me up to this song when my mother died very suddenly three years ago. I feel in love immediately and my sister and I even decided to play it at her service. To me, this song is about the trials of life and the peace you are rewarded with at the end, it gave me and continues to give me comfort that my mom is happy and at peace, this song rocks me to my core.

Pretty sure these lyrics are incorrect

I love everything So don't it make you feel sad 'cause I'll drink to you, my baby I'll think to that, I'll think to that. (s/b I'll drink to that 2ce)

I saw Yusef Islam speak at my college years ago and he mentioned this song. He was saying that even though at that time he had not found islam he was still spiritual and looking for something. He also mentioned 'On the road to find out'.

@geekchica just now listened to a live performance of the song and it is, indeed "think" rather than "drink" in the last line. Very clearly.

Wanted to mention how much I love the piano in this song - I love to play it really loud in the car :-)
