Ghosts Lyrics

All I ever wanted was to feel the way you feel
All I ever wanted was a chance to make it real
and I'm alone with you
cause I can pull it through

All I ever wanted was a place right by the sun
To watch the world go by and take each day as it comes
All I ever wanted was a chance to catch my breath
To see the world go by and lay my ghosts to rest
Give my a chance to catch my breath
So I can lay my ghosts to rest

So ask me tomorrow what I thought of yesterday
There's so many things that I cannot explain
I'm alone with you
cause I can pull it through

All I ever wanted was a place right by the sun
To watch the world go by and take each day as it comes
All I ever wanted was a chance to catch my breath
To see the world go by and lay my ghosts to rest
Give my a chance to catch my breath
So I can lay my ghosts to rest

All that I ever wanted was a chance to catch my breath
All that I ever wanted was to lay my ghosts to rest
All that I ever wanted was a chance to catch my breath
All that I ever wanted was to lay my ghosts to rest

Agreed. It is a great song - catchy and thumpy, yet somehow relaxing at the same time. I interpret the song as having a meaning of tiredness, or weariness. Like the singer is coming to the end of a long life and just wants to relax. He just wants a place up by the sun, to watch the world go by. Meaning, he doesn't feel like being an active participant anymore, just wants to watch others do things. (The sun is very "high up, so this would offer a good vantage point on the world.) I have heard senior citizens say things like this - that they are "tired," and it isn't the kind of tiredness that's cured with just a good night's sleep. Laying a ghost to rest - same basic idea, though that has more to do (in my mind) with being ready to leave this world and go on to the next, whatever the singer takes that to be. To lay a ghost to rest would be for a soul to find peace, resolution, closure, or something along those lines. It would be the opposite of a restless spirit which goes from place to place trying to right some wrong. The singer sounds to me like he believes his work here is done, and that he's ready to go home and rest - eternally.
