Sweet memories Flashing very quickly by
Reminding me Giving me a reason why
I know that My goal is more than a thought
I'll be there When I teach what I've been taught
You know we've told you before
But you didn't hear us then
So you still question why
You didn't listen again
Sweet memories I never thought it would be like this
Reminding me Just how close I came to missing
I know that This is the way for me to go
You'll be there When you know what I know
Reminding me Giving me a reason why
I know that My goal is more than a thought
I'll be there When I teach what I've been taught
But you didn't hear us then
So you still question why
You didn't listen again
Reminding me Just how close I came to missing
I know that This is the way for me to go
You'll be there When you know what I know

I think the song as a whole is slightly confusing on one end, yet can be quite obvious on the other. The first paragraph hits it out of the park at home for me. It's just that drive. I'm going to get there and nothing is going to stop me. Come on, no one can lie. Rush is nothing less than phenomenal.
first post! good rush song from 2112 i think its about growing up........also it echoes the censorship of 2112
My first post too. I think you're right. Let's see if I can put it another way. The answer to enjoying life is in the song itself. But it looks obscure to people that don't know themselves. That don't know. Follow your heart. That's the way for you to go. The lesson is in that song. See it says, "...you didn't listen again" because they are trying to get you to find yourself. The answer is in you. That's the Lesson. The same message that is in "Closer to the Heart", another Rush song. I'm not sure if that is the correct title.
great song off a timeless album. written actually by alex lifeson. I love the fade in at the beginning
I CANT BELIEVE IM SEEING THIS! rush is amazing, one of the best bands of their time, if not ever. Just listen to cygnus x-1, both books (if you don't understand what i'm talking about you're a lost cause and i am sorry for you). You guys are crazy, rush is phenominal, they may have some bad albums, but fly by night, caress of steal, permanent waves, 2112, farewell to kings, hemispheres, moving pictures. all godly albums. some of my favorites. you should all be shot.
@shanefriedman2 let's just settle down a little...the "boys" themselves, weren't pleased with several of the albums you label as kick-ass...I personally concur, Fly,Caress,Hemispheres, et tal, are my kick-ass favorites also. But, to put others in front of a squad, is taking too personal. It's only natural that a true artist hungers to expand their artistry.

Lyrics by Alex Lifeson ... quite different from Neil Peart lyrics style ... I think the lyrics are very musical and do not have profound meanings .. as written by a guitar player ... the guitar chords and bassline will say the rest ...
i think these lyrics bend around the lessons we get as young adults without saying what they are. Two simple lessons that might fit are, "follow your heart" and"do your best." So I think what Alex was doing was sharing the intent that his elders gave him. Perhaps an ode to his parents or teachers.
Well, dasquien's first post comment simply meant it was the first post for the song... Still quite good. The problem with rush is that, at least during this era, they have little that is bad, but even less that is spectacular. (whereas other bands I like, such as Pink Floyd or Jethro Tull or ELP had lots of great songs and couple stinkers).
Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull are horrible comparisons as both are less than stellar. Pink Floyd is for drug addicts.

Both Floyd and Rush are awesome in their own right...listen to "Animals", "Wish you Were Here" or more recently "Division Bell" don't be so judgemental force...Floyd is no more for drugy's than Rush is...I love both!

inpraiseoffolly...3 things you should learn...you're an idiot...your user name is gay...and, there is no "problem" with Rush...you're obviously not familiar with their body of work or talent level,so... I'm wasting no more time with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
