Cinderella Man Lyrics
A modest man from Mandrake
Travelled rich to the city
He had a need to discover
A use for his newly-found wealth
Because he was human
Because he had goodness
Because he was moral
They called him insane
Delusions of grandeur
Visions of splendour
A manic depressive
He walks in the rain
Eyes wide open
Heart undefended
Innocence untarnished
Cinderella Man
Doing what you can
They can't understand
What it means
Cinderella Man
Hang on to your plans
Try as they might
They cannot steal your dreams
In the betrayal of his love he awakened
To face a world of cold reality
And a look in the eyes of the hungry
Awakened him to what he could do
He held up his riches
To challenge the hungry
Purposeful motion
For one so insane
They tried to fight him
Just couldn't beat him
This manic depressive
Who walks in the rain
Travelled rich to the city
He had a need to discover
A use for his newly-found wealth
Because he had goodness
Because he was moral
They called him insane
Visions of splendour
A manic depressive
He walks in the rain
Heart undefended
Innocence untarnished
Doing what you can
They can't understand
What it means
Hang on to your plans
Try as they might
They cannot steal your dreams
To face a world of cold reality
And a look in the eyes of the hungry
Awakened him to what he could do
To challenge the hungry
Purposeful motion
For one so insane
Just couldn't beat him
This manic depressive
Who walks in the rain

I was reading this, and I came across an interesting thought. I can't decide if my hunch is correct or not, so I'll let you decide. There might be two things to take away here.
So the first one is the obvious one. Sometimes innocence can make you a better person. This character has mental issues, but they make him not look at his own problems, and he now looks to the hurting. He travels overseas to help the hungry. It's very inspirational to us, and tells us that we need to show love above all else.
But is it possible that there is a darker ending? Look at the last couple verses. Starting where he "awakened". It says that he faced "a world of cold reality", which would basically mean that his innocence is gone. And when I think of "holding" something up, I usually think of traffic. And to "challenge" someone, usually means to make them do something they don't want, or to give something up. So do you think what happened, is that he came to a harsh reality, and became like the ones who "called him insane"? That he realized that he could keep all the wealth to himself, and so he went back home? I mean, this is a story about someone with bipolar disorder. If he didn't change his mind, then why mention the manic depressiveness?
Food for thought.
Yes, "Mr Deeds Goes to town" The song is based on this story/movie. An old movie with Gary Cooper from the 30's! It's a real good old movie. Some things don't change about people. I recommend renting it. I saw it years ago.
Another fabulously moving, musical masterpiece by the most talented musicians ever....Thanks for all the years of staying true to yourselves, and never failing to amaze and educate us with your work...Here's to the greatest band ever....Geddy, Alex and Neil....Thank you.
I really wish they utilized the first intro riff a bit more, thats one of my favorites.
All in all, great song :D
If only more people could be like "him"...
This song is about FREE WILL and how our society of Greed, Lust and Hate views ANYONE who publicly lives through the pure vibration of Love. "They", the ruling elites, can't understand people of this ilk because they cannot experience Love when they live through the vibration of Hate. Thus, society attacks all those that offer Love on a grand scale...Mahatma Gandhi, John and Robert Kennedy, MLK, Malcolm X, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, Bill Hicks, George Harrison...they all became the targets of a society hell-bent on keeping their nefarious control over us...
"Because he was human Because he had goodness Because he was moral They called him insane"
But the ultimate "message" to the song were the lines,
"Cinderella Man Hang on to your plans Try as they might They cannot steal your dreams"
Remember this, that all the Illuminati, the ruling elites, can do is to INTIMIDATE us to operate out of Fear, instead of Love. Because ALL of us have been gifted with FREE WILL, no matter how much money the Rockefeller's possess, it is YOU that controls your own destiny by the free will decisions you make in every moment...and NO ONE can ever take that away from you!
All society does is to attempt to "pull the wool over our eyes" by controlling the narrative of what goes on in the "out there". Thus, Politicians and the Mainstream Media have become their two most powerful weapons...because all these two devices tell us is that the world is BAD, we are WEAK, and we NEED them to "keep us safe"...all so that they can rape this Earth to acquire more wealth and more power...when all that matters is LOVE...pure and simple.
As Jim Morrison and Mahatma Gandhi used to say, Life is merely a choice in every moment between Love or Fear...
Another song i absolutely fell in love with, maybe it's just rush. Very good stuff this is. It talks of a man who is a dreamer, who tries to do good things but is missunderstood. I identify with this song completely, in a different way, I'm not rich (wouldn't that be nice) but in the way that he is. I suggest everyone downloads this song.
unbelieveable song...i love this song live...especically on Exit Stage Left where the entire audience sings every lyric with Geddy
^^^ oops, thought i clicked on Closer to the Heart not one of my fav. Rush songs, but still a good one
