Signals transmitted
Message received
Reaction making impact --
Invisibly
Elemental telepathy
Exchange of energy
Reaction making contact --
Mysteriously
Eye to I
Reaction burning hotter
Two to one
Reflection on the water
H to O
No flow without the other
Oh but how
Do they make contact
With one another?
Electricity? Biology?
Seems to me it's Chemistry
Emotion transmitted
Emotion received
Music in the abstract --
Positively
Elemental empathy
A change of synergy
Music making contact --
Naturally
One, two, three --
Add without subtraction
Sound on sound
Multiplied reaction
H to O
No flow without the other
Oh but how
Do we make contact
With one another?

Sounds like a track about the emotional contact between two people "in sync" with each other.
It's an amazingly strong connection, but almost impossible to understand.
This song is obviously about the band - the 3 of them. The chemistry that makes them special. So many clues :)
1, 2, 3 Add without subtraction Sound on Sound Multiplied reaction.
One of the rare tracks where all 3 members of the band get the "lyrics by" credit. I think it's a celebration of how tight the band are, especially when "Signals" was a breakout album - a change of direction for Rush.
I completely agree with addsseale2: "Sounds like a track about the emotional contact between two people "in sync" with each other. It's an amazingly strong connection, but almost impossible to understand."
This song always seemed to me to be about two people falling in love, especially the line "Signals transmitted / Message received / Reaction making impact -- /Invisibly" It just reminds me of me and my husband and how we can know what each other is thinking just from a fleeting facial expression or how we can finish each others sentences because we are so intimate and know each other so well. It's almost like we don't even need words to communicate, we just have emotions to transmit and receive.
I love Rush! Best band in the world!
I believe this song talks about the relationship between recorded music and human beings.Read the lyrics they talk of sound on sound and it even says music in the abstract positively. Two to one reflection on the water is 2112.I don't think this song is about two people falling in love at all.Has anyone found the backward masking on this one? This song will blow your mind once you understand it.The boys are genius'
What happened to this Rush? Clockwork Angels is a joke!
