True Til Death Lyrics

you said it shouldnt be taken too seriously
you said it was just your
personal ideas and opinions
you said it was only meant to relate
directly to your life
what about my life?

has the edge gone dull? (chorus 4x)

well maybe now that youve grown
dull and old
well pick up where you left off
to you it was just music
but to us it was so much more
when we put our heads together
well prove weve got the edge
that can never dull

true till death / has the edge gone dull?

chain of strength put out some definitely great music. nevertheless, they were about the most ridiculous band ever. "true till death"? you wish...! they were 100% fake edge. sad but true.

it's true this is probably their worst song BORING

I reckon the song is about Ian MacKaye.

"You said it shouldn't be taken too seriously" This is heaps similar to some of the stuff MacKaye has been quoted as saying about SxE, about how it was never meant to be a movement or anything and how it was just him singing about how he felt.

Ian Mackaye is no longer edge, he says that it was right for him as a youth but not as an adult. This explains the anger in the song.

Also at one of Chain's concerts the singer introduced this song by saying something like: "There have been a lot of people who are straight-edge, but then as they grow older it means less and less to them. This song is called "True Til Death" something they were not!"

This fits in with the MacKaye theory.

you're kinda holding a grudge against Ian MacKaye, right? Judging from your comments on this site ;)

Anyway, remember "true till death" was recorded in 1989. a time when ian mackaye still WAS very edge, or wasn't he? he was definitely still quite a youth back then...

and, whatever, sXe was NEVER meant to be anything but a matter of personal choice, anything but that is something I'd rather call fascist. btw, do you remember HEADFIRST and their anthem "self edge"?

"Remember, a few years back? When straight edge wasn't making so much noise. Well, times have changed for the worst. The edge has lost its personal choice. Pushing ideals, clinging to trends. Wake up and see that others have a right to do what they want."

what's more -

a) ian mackaye single-handedly invented the term "straight edge", so he can do with it whatever the fuck he wants, anyway ;)

b) Chain of Strength never were "true till death", they were "true till the end of the gig", at max! FAKE EDGE, from the beginning... so Curtis should have just kept his mouth shut

c) these lyrics are severely childish. or, could you say DULL?
