The Sanity Assassin Lyrics

sinister echoes clutching at straws
letter boxes screaming
you try to pin him to the wall
you end up on the ceiling
locked in a dome
the shadows flicker by
he's the madcap pusher
delerium the drug he's dealing

he drops a capsule in your drink
and spikes your dreams with madness

he's the sniper in the hills
hiding in the holes in your head
he's the poison in your poison
the razor in your bed
hanging on a picture
eye lid needle and thread
you empty yourself once again
he's always one step ahead
was it whispers in your ear
nothing that you said ?
he's walking in your sleep now
he keeps your fat paranoia well fed

he drops a capsule...

the sanity assassin stays up all night stalking
the sanity assassin picks off victims like flys
the sanity assassin lets his fingers do the walking
the sanity assassin the crack shot between your eyes
he's got you in his sights

he drops a capsule...

I think this is a sort of political song.

The hypothetical Sanity Assassin is someone who people have closed minded views about, "Keeps your fat paranoia well fed", so he plays off those fears and messes with those who deserve to be. Kind of like a gay guy coming onto a homophobe.

I think this is sort of about the post punk/goth culture back in the early 80s, in a sense. Most of these lyrics are exaggerations of how people see those who don't fit in with their world view.

Shock those who deserve to be shocked.

If I'm right, this song has a real Rock'n'Roll philosophy to it.

I think this song is about going insane. The Sanity Assassin is a way of saying something is taking away your sanity

I believe "Sanity Assassin" is about a malevolent figure who preys on vulnerable individuals. The character of the "madcap pusher delirium" is presented as a manipulative and sinister figure who lures his victims into a state of confusion and chaos. He has a cunning and insidious presence, capable of infiltrating the minds and dreams of those he targets.

The repeated lyric of him dropping a capsule (spiking) in drinks with madness conveys a sense of power and control. Also, "Sniper in the hills" and "poison in your poison" gives the idea of him being a deadly and unseen threat.

I feel like this song speaks of paranoia and vulnerability too, suggesting that the "sanity assassin" is always one step ahead and can easily manipulate and exploit his victims. He preys on their weaknesses and insecurities. The usage of "he's walking in your sleep now" gives you a sense of dread and unease, hinting at the idea that his influence extends even into the subconscious.
