Here Comes Everybody Lyrics
they still look at you like a lost battalion
calling on all downs that you once made home
my apologies to your lost battalion
they still look at you like your loss is so great
sha la la
let’s go let’s go
soft soft silver bang like a banks hydraulics
the air it hangs its head and your cat has passed out
you polished off your thoughts in the banks hydraulics
soft soft silver bang when the vaults are all shut
sha la la
let’s go let’s go
down so let down and down again
the doubt it takes you down another step
down you feel so down that all you think
sha la la
here comes everybody from the outside
they all want the same things that you hate
turn your face back on and crack a smile
here comes everybody you never cared for
sha la la
let’s go let’s go
down so let down and down again
the doubt it takes you down another step
your only alibi comes just like
sha la la sha la la
let’s go let’s go
they won’t be happy for you.
calling on all downs that you once made home
my apologies to your lost battalion
they still look at you like your loss is so great
let’s go let’s go
the air it hangs its head and your cat has passed out
you polished off your thoughts in the banks hydraulics
soft soft silver bang when the vaults are all shut
let’s go let’s go
down so let down and down again
the doubt it takes you down another step
down you feel so down that all you think
sha la la
they all want the same things that you hate
turn your face back on and crack a smile
here comes everybody you never cared for
let’s go let’s go
down so let down and down again
the doubt it takes you down another step
your only alibi comes just like
sha la la sha la la

It's completely Finnegan's Wake, the dream-city, mutating, lost within it.
'Here Comes Everybody' is also a recurring phrase in Finnegans Wake by James Joyce
I am surprised noone has commented about this song yet. Autolux is a great band. This is probably one of my favorite tracks off of Future Perfect.
does anyone have the lyrics to their song "asleep at the trigger" ?
i just love the way this song sounds. just the way the sliding synth kind of blends in with the guitar.
it's kind of hard to tell what this song is about. on the surface it seems like the 'you' in the song is a rebel or misfit in his/her peer group or school. they are acting like someone they are not to keep up a normal appearance. this stanza makes it obvious.
'here comes everybody from the outside they all want the same things that you hate turn your face back on and crack a smile here comes everybody you never cared for'
but i believe that the song is about the person killing everybody that they dislike.i think that in
'soft soft silver bang like a banks hydraulics the air it hangs its head and your cat has passed out you polished off your thoughts in the banks hydraulics soft soft silver bang when the vaults are all shut ',
'soft soft silver bang' might refers to the sound of a gun being shot. 'you polished off your thoughts' seems to refer to the lack of emotion in the killing. then the person is tried, which is what
'the doubt it takes you down another step your only alibi comes just like sha la la sha la la '
refers to-- they have only one alibi and they are doubtful about their sentence.
however i could be completely wrong. thoughts?
I heard this song the other day and I found it! The only lyrics I knew where "let go" and "shalala." I'm so good. And to find it's Autolux who sings it! Ahh I love autolux.
my thoughts on this song,
it's kind of hard to tell what this song is about. on the surface it seems like the 'you' in the song is a rebel or misfit in his/her peer group or school. they are acting like someone they are not to keep up a normal appearance. this stanza makes it obvious.
yup I think so as well, but for me second verse has a totally different meaning:
soft soft silver bang like a banks hydraulics the air it hangs its head and your cat has passed out you polished off your thoughts in the banks hydraulics soft soft silver bang when the vaults are all shut
for me the banks hydraulics are a metaphor for the weight of thoughts that you feel when you're depressed.
So for me the song is about a misfit, that may be just the person who has totally different view of the world from others that surround him. He has to be alone in his thoughts, because he's misunderstood. So he shuts off from his thoughts and puts on a fake smile, just to be with others.
The rephraise just means that he likes to be down I guess. And maybe that's what others don't understand, so he has to be alone with it.
I took it fairly face value, or at the least the first verse could be about a "lost" battalion in WWII. Surrounded and cut off, they're (the enemy) calling (artillery) on all downs (foxholes) you once made home.
Get poetic enough and the second verse could definitely sound like an pre-engagement artillery strike. Mixing it in with a metaphor of safety (a bank) and a collection (a bank) of guns (hydraullics).
Third verse could be the attack, coming from all sides, wanting the same things you hate (your death). Here they come, the people you don't care for (the enemy).
Just some thoughts.
This song seems to be about an anti-social and depressed shut-in.
"calling on all downs that you once made home" "the air it hangs its head" "here comes everybody from the outside" "here comes everybody you never cared for" "down so let down and down again"
I also like the bank vault metaphor...
I think it's clearly a song about Greg's antipathy towards his time and successes/failures in Failure with Ken and Kelli.
He's greeted by failure fans as a long lost treasure, (They still look at you like a lost battalion) but to him it just reminds him of the depression he felt back then. they treat the break up a huge tragedy, but to him it may well have been a relief, and he feels sorry that the band means more to them than to him. (They still look at you like your loss is so great).
The second verse is about locking that depression away and forgetting about it, or trying to.
He has moved on; artistically, and emotionally, but keepsup a fascade for the adoring Failure fans (They all want the same things that you hate. Turn your face back on and crack a smile.)
the song even ends with a failure-esque melody being played on a child's toy.
