You've Got to Hide Your Love Away (The Beatles cover) Lyrics
Here I stand with head in hand
Turn my face to the wall
If she's gone I can't go on
Feeling two foot small
Everywhere people stare
each and everyday
I can hear them laugh at me
And I hear them say
Hey, you've got to hide your love away
Hey, you've got to hide your love away
How can I even try?
I can never win
Seeing them hearing them
In the state I'm in
How could she say to me
"Love will find a way"?
Gather 'round all you clowns
Let me hear you say;
Hey, you've got to hide your love away
Hey, you've got to hide your love away
Turn my face to the wall
If she's gone I can't go on
Feeling two foot small
Everywhere people stare
each and everyday
I can hear them laugh at me
And I hear them say
Hey, you've got to hide your love away
Hey, you've got to hide your love away
How can I even try?
I can never win
Seeing them hearing them
In the state I'm in
How could she say to me
"Love will find a way"?
Gather 'round all you clowns
Let me hear you say;
Hey, you've got to hide your love away
Hey, you've got to hide your love away

Originally written / composed by the beatles, which makes it a great song. The meaning of it is simple yet deep. The love someone has for someone else, that they just have to express. They simply can't hide it away.
A wonderful song! And a sad story many of us have experienced! Though it's a great Beatles song, I think eddies touch makes a superb song as well!
well....first off...this song was composed by John and Paul......both of them were accused of having women that were assumed to be the cause of the break-up the fab 4.......... Yet, if you listen, the song implies they/john/paul either/or chose the woman they love over the band.............and chose NOT to hide their love away. Love wins....love wins..and it is a loss to US as a culture, yet why would WE want to be happy and forsake the happiness of John/Paul and not let them free. Yoko made John truly happy, finally at ease and happy, as Linda to Paul...and the Beatles died that day....the WORLD died that day.......BUT, we have the songs, the memories......John and Paul have the LOVE that most of us never found. Isn't that worth more than foursome who were giving US more than we deserved??
We are selfish...and John/Paul should never be ashamed of the love they had with Oko/Linda. HEY....... they meant........I WILL NOT hide MY love away...........I believe John and Paul decided....the world was their "woman". Bad news for US, but good for them.
I read that this song was really about Beatles manager Brian Epstein who was a homosexual. John observed how Brian had to constantly pretend he was straight and could not display his affections for his lovers in public.
spankme doesn't know what he's talking about. This song was written in early 1965, over a year before John met Yoko, and roughly 2 years before Paul met Linda. And this song was more John's composition than Paul's, just like "Yesterday" was more Paul's than John's.
Either way, Yoko and Linda take too much blame for breaking up the Beatles, when the process originally started when John went to Spain to do How I Won The War, and the desire to break up grew massively after Epstien died.
thefez, I've never heard that, but that's a very cool interpretation.
Wow spankme, learn some Beatles history before you open your mouth.
The song by the Beatles was actually rumoured to be about their homosexual manager Brian Epstein who reportedly made numerous advanced towards John.
As GuitarJeezus said, the Beatles were still in the groupie phase - not one of them had met the significant other they wound up marrying after the Beatles had broken up..
Homosexuality comes to mind when I hear this song. Also, incest. >.> But thats just my own perverted mind. ;)
pearl jam played this song during an encore in chicago... i think he was dedicating this song to his girlfriend because people were/are giving him crap for going out with a model when he was with the other girl for 15 years or something. i don't know the details and feel bad enough that i looked it up, but when i heard he threw out the first pitch at the cubs game with his 2-year-old, i had to see what his little girl looked like. people compare his new girlfriend to yoko and this is his response in my opinion...
the lirycs are wrong:
..."I can SEE them laugh at me And I hear them say
Hey, you've got to hide your love away Hey, you've got to hide your love away
How can I even try? I can never win HEARING them SEEING them In the state I'm in"...
I love eddies version of this song. I love the beatles version too, and the oasis version as well!
