It is a good song but it has a real and universal meaning. Its rooted in the beginnings of the modern age as we know it. Worldwide communications were difficult and costly. The curvature of the earth made wireless communication sometimes impossible unless signals could be skipped when atmospheric conditions were ideal. It has been almost impossible to find details about the invention and inventor of the instant repeater with 99 channels but that creation has changed you and I and all mankind. It has made all these things possible and more. The song is about an electronic device that heralded our times for better or worse.
