Wow.. I can't believe I'm the first one to say something here, but this song means a lot to me. I think its about two people, who used to be extremely close (in love obviously) who broke up, and then when they met up again they realized things between them weren't the same, and they had nothing more to talk about, nor say.
I think it's really sad when that happens. This is a sad song..

from experiance this is very true. when you meet someone you were that close to, and now you're not even friends, there's nothing to say, you just can't find anything to talk about, it's too awkward.
Russell Crowe does a pretty good cover of this on his solo album (which Alan Doyle from GBS produced and co-wrote some songs for).
this song means so much to me. i have been through this. when you're so close to someone, and then you fall away. its so different. you cant even talk to them. its really strange, and such an awkward feeling. but theres nothing to say. i love when it says "have all the words been spoken, have we finally met our match" .. like saying theres nothing more to talk about, we finally cant move any further. this song means alot to me. i love it
This song describes perfectly how I'm feeling right now. I was with a guy for a year and a half and it felt so special and it was my first experience of real love but then he ended it. Now we "bump into each other" quite a lot and we talk and we say we should "hang out" some time but everything feels so different and awkward, like there's nothing to say. It's strange that you can be so close to someone for what seems like so long and then everything can change. Aha, just pouring my heart out to all you people at songmeanings.net :) But yeah, this song is lovely and quite fresh and pretty even though it's about something so sad.
As everyone else has stated, this song describes perfectly the awkwardness that appears when you meet someone that you were once so close to. How every single thing they told you about themselves comes back to you all at once, and how there is nothing to say, because they already know it or it's just so weird realising that everything is different.
ah god this song is wonderful, along with every other song by GBS. i may be biased, but these guys are awesome. this particular song is helping me over a break up as we speak, and doing a damn good job of it
