I've tried so many times
To tell you how I feel
But you're far too disbelieving
Are you tryin' to get even with me
Maybe once or twice
I wasn't fair, I wasn't nice
But now I've got myself together
When I promise to be better
You say

(Whoa) I'll believe you when
(Whoa) I'll believe you when
(Whoa) when everything you say don't turn out wrong
(Whoa) I'll believe you when
(Whoa) I'll believe you when
(Whoa) when everything you say don't turn out wrong, oh wrong

I could call you everyday
Give presents by the score
And I could send you pretty flowers
Have them waiting at your door

I could write up in the sky
Forgive me I apologize
Still if I went through every measure
With my promise to be better
You'd say

(Whoa) I'll believe you when
(Whoa) I'll believe you when
(Whoa) when everything you say don't turn out wrong
(Whoa) I'll believe you when
(Whoa) I'll believe you when
(Whoa) when everything you say don't turn out wrong

There's nothing you can say
That I haven't tried
And nothing I can do will ever change your mind
Yeah, maybe I'd do better
If I told somebody else

And I can hear you sing (whoa) I'll believe you when
(Whoa) I'll believe you when
(Whoa) when everything you say don't turn out wrong
(Whoa) I'll believe you when
(Whoa) I'll believe you when
(Whoa) when everything you say don't turn out wrong

(Whoa) I'll believe you when
(Whoa) I'll believe you when
(Whoa) I'll believe you when when everything you tell me isn't wrong

(Whoa) I'll believe you when
(Whoa) and I'll believe you when
(Whoa) and I'll believe you when when everything you say don't turn out wrong

Sorry to disappoint you ..but the only copy of Loss Strain and Butterflies that you will ever find..is a bootleg, bad copy. It was Tabitha's Secret...and doubt Rob will want another law suite from the former band members like he had with 3 A.M.

You & I & I i think they will only use as a concert "treat". But you can get bootlegs of pretty decent copies of it...the live from australia concert in '98?? Whenever it was...it is a really good copy.

I love this song, I have it in a bootleg, an acoustic version. He does sound angry in it. I am not sure about what he means with "you and I and I"...is that he has too much with himself to stand someone else?

There's a Live version available that was released in mp3 format as an extra on some (all?) versions of Mad Season

It was avaliable through the website by the Mad Season CD. But not anymore, as the site as long since been changed. Great song, a favorite of mine. I have both the version off of Mad Season and the live acoustic recorded at 99x.

    Song Meaning

To me this song is about a very narcissistic person. That why he said things like- all I ever think about is myself and also the fact that he seems to feel that everyone else gets strung out but he only gets high...I think this is why it is titled You and I and I, clearly one I is not enough because the relationship is all about him. His narcisisim is coming between them in the relationship and it is the distance between them.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

When We Were Young
Blink-182
This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
