You and me, whenever we go wrong
Wake up early and you'll live to regret
(Nothing is clear)
And you'll tell it to the telephone
(Tell the truth)
Look whenever you're talking all alone
(Whenever you see fit)
And everything you ever said
Wake up early and you'll live to regret it
(Spend some time, whenever you go wrong)
Wake up early and you'll live to regret it
And you'll wake up early and you'll live to regret
(Tell the truth)
And you'll wake up early and you'll live to regret
(Whenever you see fit)
Well, talking on the telephone
Looking at yourself like you're all alone
(Everything's wrong)
And everything you ever
Wake up early and you'll live to regret it
(Everything's wrong)
Talking on the telephone
Talking like a talking bell
You'll go to bed early and you'll talk to your pillow
You'll go to bed early and you'll talk to your pillow
You'll go to bed early and you'll talk to your pillow
You'll go to bed early and you'll talk to your pillow
(You and me, whenever we see fit)
Talking on the telephone
(Nothing is clear)
Looking at ourselves like we're all alone
And, everything you ever said
Wake up early and you'll live to regret
Wake up early and you'll live to regret
(You and me)
Talking on the telephone
Looking like we're all alike, we're all alone
(Whenever you see fit)
And, everything you ever said
And you'll wake up early and you'll live to regret
(Everything's clear)
And you'll wake up early and you'll live to regret
(Tell the truth)
And you'll wake up early and you'll live to regret
(Every once in a while)
And you'll wake up early and you'll live to regret
And you'll wake up early and you'll live to regret
(Ever said)
And you'll wake up early again
Talking on the phone like your own best friend
And, everything you ever said
Every thought I ever meant I'll ever do
Talking on the telephone
Looking at ourselves like we're all alone
Yeah, we're talking on the phone again
Acting like we are our own best friend
And everything you ever said
Every thought I ever meant I ever did
You'll wake up early and you'll live to regret
Well, you'll wake up early and you'll live to regret, yeah
(You and me, whenever you see fit)
Talking on the telephone again
Looking at yourself like your own best friend
And, everything you ever did
(Tell the truth)
Wake up early and you'll live to regret
(Whenever you go wrong)
Wake up early and you'll live to regret
And all for a strong again, and all
(For a strong)
Now and then, whenever you see fit
Nothing is clear
Tell the truth
Whenever you go wrong
Everything's fine

modest mouse and 764-hero, there cannot be a more ingenious duo. although, i do wish they did more than one song together, but maybe an album. great song.

it's about being driven insane by loneliness and regret. "Talking on the phone like your own best friend" I think he's talking to himself, pretending there's a friend on the other line to fill it up. "Everything you ever said Ever thought or ever meant or ever did You'll wake up early and you'll live to regret it all" That basically sums up the song. He's just looking back on his life, trying to figure out how he got to be like this, and realizing he pushed his friends away and caused it all to happen to himself.

i think this may be about the same female as "barnacles" or at least the same situation in another relationship. both songs are spot-on of the confusion a relationship with an emotional-cheater.

definitely about loneliness and maybe for a bad relationship. take it how you want to but it helps to lose yourself in it. great band and his metaphoric lyrics never get old in my head.

yeah, this is an excelent song. as i have heard someone say before, it is insanely long for a song, but seems to never get boring between the wonderful lispy lyrics, and the equally wonderful guitar sounds...sorry i cant interpret it

"Looking at ourselves like we're all alone Yeah, we're talkin' on the phone again Acting like we are our own best friend And, everything you ever said Every thought I ever meant I ever did You'll wake up early and you'll live to regret Well, you'll wake up early and you'll live to regret yeah... "

Thats my favorite part of this song.To me that part "Looking at ourselves like we're all alone Yeah, we're talkin' on the phone again Acting like we are our own best friend" means how its so hard to trust people these days.Like when you trust somebody it seems like you always get fucked over.I dont know, thats prolly not what he meant but thats what it means to me.

"Every thought I ever meant I ever did" No clue what thats supposed to mean

"You'll wake up early and you'll live to regret Well, you'll wake up early and you'll live to regret yeah..."

To me thats like Waking up every morning, going to work at the same dead end job day after day after day and getting nowhere.

But as I said, this is just me

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
