I think that he knows he's going to be alright without her, but he's having a hard time completely letting go. Like; he knows that he'll be better off without her, but he doesn't want to. He's reluctantly forcing himself to get over her because he knows it's over, but his feelings are still there.

I've always pictured this song to be completely sarcastic in meaning. This guy just got out of a relationship with his one true love, and he's trying to keep himself composed...

I agree with jatuab. The line, "I keep tellin' myself" tells me that he's in denial and has to force himself to believe. I have some advice for that man. Don't stop believin'. I know that was retarded. Though any way you want it, that's the way you need it. If you don't believe me, ask the lonely. I'll stop now.

First of all i want to start by saying journey is the all time greatest band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but anyway this song means alot to me because the girl i love we just broke up and i'm telling myself everything will wrk out but i know inside me i don't want things to wrk out anyway but me and her getting back together again i just sit at my computer know and play this song over and over again i can relate so much to it fav part do i miss ya or am i lying to myself again well i'm gonna see ya'll
