Intrinsic Lyrics

At night, assimilate life
In the infinite realm
Of our intrinsic side

Find, the missing parts of the mind
The hidden truth behind
Our dungeon of thoughts, this labyrinth

Search, it has a reason and a meaning
Remembered and repeated
A guide, not to be ignored

Feel, there's so much to feel
Amnesia must confiscate an elusive link
to consciousness

It's there; cause there's so much we don't know
Even our own true face
It's there, facing what we can't have

Our ideals ain't true, naked and exposed
To the bareness of what's real
Boundless fantasy, becomes reality
As we breathe water and run through the sand

Whispers and a scream, flying high, falling down
And a face with no features or name
Exposed to live, we can only divine
Tell me, what's your reality?

Very philosophical song. I think it's talking about how people are inside their own reality and that people should search for the meaning of life and that "real life"'s not what's "real" and that people should get back to their feeling side and understand life as they take a step back. Whispers and a scream = small stuff we do in life and final death. Flying high, falling down = highs and lows of life. People are nobodies. Reality is what we perceive it to be. These songs (like Intrinsic, Zenith, and some Epica stuff like phantom agony) are trying to say "step back from science and religion and feel what's real". The question I ask is what IS real? And that's what the song asks too in a way. We will never reach the meaning of life but must strive for it. We don't know who we are or what anything is, as much as we want to assume. And I guess some would think there's nothing in between fantasy and reality. But I think there is. It's called the divine. Somehow, humans can't comprehend what the divine is though. "elusive link to consciousness".

That was a pretty kickass interpretation. I think you're spot on.

This song cemented Floor Jansen's position as #1 female vocalist in my book. Her performance here just blows me away no matter how many times I hear it. To study the lyrics and see that she's also such an intelligent deep thinker only makes me appreciate her even more.
