some ladies are especially an added ball and chain. no matter what happens he wont go back to the one who causes the decay of beauty. he leaves her behind and gets caught up in his own disparage, but of course the lies will seem less crazy, and until the end, he will hear the nonsense that drives him

i think the line is "she's whispering like a mortician now" a mortician is someone who prepares the dead for burial, or manages a funeral. just an overall morbid comparison, i'd say. i dont think it's about a bad woman. i think the singer just can't deal with her, because she's a little bit crazy (like all of us). and you know he wants to treat her good, or should be treating her good, someday he will work it out. there's such a creepyness. "something going on around here" like something abnormal or nightmarish. it's brilliant.
