Into The Night Lyrics
Leave her alone, they said
Separated by fools
Who don't know what love is yet
But I want you to know
I'd take you into the night
And show you a love
Like you've never seen, ever seen
Where nobody has a heart
It's like having it all
And watching it fall apart
And I would wait til the end of time for you
And do it again, it's true
I can't measure my love
There's nothing to compare it to
But I want you to know
I'd take you into the night
And show you a love, oh
If I could fly, I'd pick you up
I'd take you into the night
And show you a love
Like you've never seen, ever seen
I'd take you into the night
And show you a love, oh
If I could fly, I'd pick you up
And take you into the night
If I could fly, I'd pick you up
Oh, into the night, oh
I'd pick you up
There's no sin or crime in loving someone younger and under the arbitrary 18 year old mark. Older people love younger people all the time. And the lyrics say he recognizes what people think about it and that has kept them apart, so there's no law being broken here, it's just a longing of the heart. This is true passion and sadness that they can't be together, a desperate desire for something you cannot have. The real beauty of this song is identifying with the "if only..." pang for an impossible love.
I agree with you itzed! My sentiments exactly!!!!! Very well put.

I agree with itzed, too. Its that Puritan thing we're still trying to get over here in America. And the hypocritical thing is we're also the ones saying "be young at heart" and "you're only as old as you feel". So if you can be young at heart, it only makes sense you could fall for a younger, more innocent person who hasn't become completely jaded by this materialistic, superficial society yet lol There's also the saying "age ain't nothing but a number" - I agree!

A lot of times people just want to...
A lot of times people just want to put an easy label on things without looking below the surface and truly getting to know a person. I can actually kinda relate to this song. I've always dated women my age, but I also have a kind of celeb crush/love thing on a 16 year old girl. I was a fan of her work for years, saw some recent pix of her "grown up" and it captured my heart - sor-ry lol You don't get to choose who your heart falls for. And she's Canadian - as far as I know, 16 is the age of consent there, so if I moved there, would I no longer be sinful in thought? ;-) See, morality can be tricky, not so black and white, is it?
As someone else stated here, 16 is not a child. Pedophiles are attracted to pre-pubescents. Have any of you actually abandoned your computer screens and been to your local mall and seen the average 16 year old? lol And if people mention the "emotional/mental maturity" thing, teenagers are often more mature than we give them credit for. Without being, like I said, completely jaded yet. Hey, where I live, the mentality sucks, all about money, status, power, so innocence is going to appeal to me lol And like the song said, I'd totally wait for her, as if I ever have a shot ;-)
So, in closing, I'll say those laws about 18 were written by MAN, not God, so itzed is right - no sin. People are so close minded, hateful, and judgmental toward anything they see has "weird" or outside the norm. They should get over themselves. Makes me feel like I'm still in high school. Ironic, huh? ;-)
Benny Mardones lived in an apartment complex. He had a neighbor who was a struggling set creator on broadway. The family had come upon some tough times and had very little. When the father made it big, rather then help out the family he moved off with a 24 year old girl who was in the shows choir. One day the families 3 little kids came up to his door and began to cry, they told Benny that their Dad had left them. Benny told them that they would get through it. Benny created odd jobs for them throughout his apartment. The young boy would run out and get cigarettes for Benny and keep the change from 20$. The one girl would clean Benny's apartment for 50$ a week. The final daughter, 16 years old, would come over in the morning and let Benny's dog out. The 16 year old girl came in when he was writing the song. She came in after a night of writing and she came in to walk his dog. His partner with whom he was writing the song the song said "Oh wow," regarding how good looking she was for a 16 year old. Benny then said said "She's just 16 years old, just leave her alone." Straight from Benny's mouth. It was a great story.
@MB657310 He's lying. The next line of the song is "Separated by fools who don't know what love is yet..." and then he dreams that they could just leave the planet and be in a relationship without other people judging them. That being said, people need to stop making it such a big deal when it involves a 16 or 17 year old versus someone who's still a child. Americans are obsessed with this.

I guess it would depend on the interpretation. It could be about and older man and a younger girl or to young people from different life styles. All in all it is a love song and it should be taken for that. Don't read to deeply into it and enjoy it. Age is just a way of keeping track of how long you have been on this earth it has nothing to do with your maturity.
Well I heard this song in a store. It reminded me of a guy I met when I was 16 in high school. He was 17 on the football team. He was in love with me, and I was too young to know what love was then. I was knew at the high school and didn't know anyone. All I could think of was going back home. We stayed close until we graduated. We stayed friends and he would ask me to go and do things. When we graduated together, he sat with me all of graduation night. Then I went back home to college like I planned and he joined the 82nd Airborne. A few years later I moved back to where I graduated, and ran into him at the gym. We were still only 22 and 23 but he had gotten married. He immediately wanted me to call him. When I did, he asked me to go sky diving with him. I melted but I knew I couldn't go. He was hinting that he wanted out of his marriage. I explained to him that we could ONLY be friend s . He said he didn't believe in cheating either. So we took classes in college together. A few years later, we were still hanging out as friends, and it was clear he wanted us to get together, and wanted to come over late and I let him. He then made some comments about wanting out of his marriage again, but in the end I just could not be the reason for ending anyone's marriage. He was upset when I explained this once again. He said I didn't see the door open right in front of my face. I felt I had to go. I got serious with someone else, and we remained friends , though not close , for many years after that. Then one day I let him know we could not even keep in touch by email any longer. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do, but I knew there was no other choice. I missed my chance in high school. I lost him because I did "not know was love was yet"> Not at just 16 years old. But that's the when I really lost him for good. I wished I could have known back then ..... I think of that a lot.
But all of these comments seem to forget he says, "it's like having it all and watching it fall apart." So I think it's really about missing your chance. MIssing your chance in high school cas you were too young to know what love was back then.

I have to agree that the people who think this song relates to pedophilia simply do not know what pedophilia is.
A 16 year old is not a child. Get over your 16th century puritanism and wake up and smell the 21st century coffee.
BTW, 16 is the age of consent - even in most of the uptight U.S.
That's what I'm talking about! Somebody who actually knows what the hell they're talking about! thanks TheMonolith. Too bad, that even with the facts that 16 is the age of consent, there will still be people who have something to say!

The age thing shouldn't matter if you had a damn heart, like he says. Jesus Christ, people are so judgemental.
ok everyone i was 17 years old when the love of my life and i got together and he was 41 years old and now i am 22 and he is 45 and we are still in love today so AGE DOES NOT MATTER AS LONG AS LOVE IS TRUEY THERE IN THE HEART!!!!!!!!!!!
i was also in the same situation but i was 12 and he was 26, things went wrong and i havent seen him since 2009 .

@kaylabug Honey it doesn’t matter now , but when he gets 65 and older it will matter very much. I married the love of my life same ages as y’all. We had 2 amazing boys. When he turned 65 everything changed. He got old really fast. I still wanted to go out and do things with him , but he didn’t feel like it ever. Something happened because of his meds and he could no longer have sex That’s a big deal when you’re still young. I stayed faithful to him til the day he died and now...

I stayed faithful to him til the day he died and now it’s been 4 years and I still haven’t dated or anything. The memories of him when we first met flood my mind constantly, he became a very old man before my eyes and reminded me more of my dad. I’m just saying be ready for when he gets old Good luck !!!
The song is about a young girl who lived in Benny's apartment building in Spanish Halem. The father of the girl ran out on her and her mother was never around. Benny felt bad and hired her to walk his dog. The song was inspired to be of a parental love, not a pedophile. If you don't believe me check out the www.kazaa.com/us/audio/Benny_Mardones. I used to think it was a pretty sick song until I researched its meaning. This should put to rest any idea that it is a song about a pedophile.
I read that same story and it's clear he's never had kids. Parental love sounds nothing like this. If you believe the love he wants to show this girl is parental love, I'm sure you believe Michael Jackson just had magical sleepovers with children in his bed.

Oh, I especially love these lyrics: "And I would wait til the end of time for you And do it again, it's true I can't measure my love There's nothing to compare it to" Amazing and breath-taking.
i was around 14 when this song came out, it was such an awesome song, and its not even about a pedophile, look up that word, if it was he'd be singing about a six year old, its about young ppl falling in love and ppl trying to keep them apart for whatever selfish reason, man i wish they only still wrote songs like that, ok, isnt it up to todays standards, like snoop dogg?
