Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?
There's something about the look in your eyes
Something I noticed when the light was just right
Uh, it reminded me twice that I was alive
And it reminded me that you're so worth the fight
Uh, yeah
My biggest fear will be the rescue of me
Strange how it turns out that way, yeah
Could you show me dear?
Something I'm not seeing
Something infinitely interesting
Could you show me dear?
Something I'm not seeing
Something infinitely interesting, ooh
There's something about the way you move
I see your mouth in slow motion when you sing
More subtle than something someone contrives
Your movements echo that I have seen the real thing
Uh yeah
Your biggest fear will be the rescue of you
Strange how it turns out that way, yeah
Could you show me dear?
Something I'm not seeing
Something infinitely interesting
Could you show me dear?
Something I'm not seeing
Something infinitely interesting
Uh
Hell yeah
Something I noticed when the light was just right
Uh, it reminded me twice that I was alive
And it reminded me that you're so worth the fight
Uh, yeah
My biggest fear will be the rescue of me
Strange how it turns out that way, yeah
Could you show me dear?
Something I'm not seeing
Something infinitely interesting
Could you show me dear?
Something I'm not seeing
Something infinitely interesting, ooh
There's something about the way you move
I see your mouth in slow motion when you sing
More subtle than something someone contrives
Your movements echo that I have seen the real thing
Uh yeah
Your biggest fear will be the rescue of you
Strange how it turns out that way, yeah
Could you show me dear?
Something I'm not seeing
Something infinitely interesting
Could you show me dear?
Something I'm not seeing
Something infinitely interesting
Uh
Hell yeah

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart
"Some and now none of you"
Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.
This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
You guys hit the nail right on the head, great song indeed. The part that you didn't explain was the "infinitely interesting" line, which is just stating that this person would like to find a love that keeps him/her interested forever. In other words, an everlasting love. Great song, best on the album for sure.
The line "My biggest fear will be the rescue of me", to me, is all about confronting your fears. If you can face your fear and win, you're free, as there is no longer a threat. So therefore, your fear has aided you, or rescued you.
This is an awesome love song because it's not so blatant and cliched like most other love songs. It requires a little more thinking, I think. And the vocals are beautiful so is the guitar. Great song.
What I admire most about Incubus is the way can say "I love you" without saying the words flat out. They notice the little things, like the "look in your eyes" and "the way you move," which shows they are paying attention to the person in mind and not just using cliche phrases that have been said many times before. They make love new and exciting - exactly what I would want out of love. I mean, the little things we do are who we are, and what is more romantic than telling someone you love every little thing about them?
This is the most beautiful love song I've ever heard. It has made me cry numerous times. Sigh I hope when I'm older I'll find someone as perfect as Brandon Boyd that can make my heart melt. Does anyone else agree that he is the most amazing person ever? Yeah, he's got the looks and all, but he's also incredibly artistic and quirky. It's so adoreable. He makes my emotions pour out so easily. It's amazing =]
First, let me point out that I play this song in my car after I drop off the girl I like at her house. In regards to the "...rescue or me..." and "...rescue of you..." parts, I believe that these simply mean that he fears if he ever will fall in love, hence rescue. It's not really fear, it's just being worried if you can be that lucky to be in love.
Does anyone know if the second verse lyrics are correct? I hear it is "more subtle than something someone contrives" rather thank "like suddenly"...
"there's something about the look in your eyes Something I noticed when the light was just right It reminded me twice that I was alive And it reminded me that you're so worth the fight"
My biggest fear will be the rescue of me Strange how it turns out that way, yeah
"Could you show me, dear, something I've not seen? Something infinitely interesting?"
This song is so damn good! It's my favorite song on this album. It's the reason I bought the CD :) . For me, this is what a love song should be. Whenever I hear this song, I don't feel miserable that I'm not with her... I feel lucky to be in love.
I guess the thing I'm not sure about is the "biggest fear". Is that falling in love? Is it committing yourself to someone? I guess it depends on who you are.
It's kind of hard to talk about the song without talking about the music that surrounds these lyrics. The music is subdued, but fast-paced (thanks to some awesome drum work). I think my favorite part of the music is the guitar work. There's something very smooth about it.
His "biggest fair" will be someone successfully capturing his heart, mind, soul, and attainability.
Wow what a beautiful song. Anyone who isn't touched by this song has issues. Really captures the feeling of falling in love.
Yeah, fireant is right.....this song kicks tons of ass... Of course, "My biggest fear will be the rescue of me" and "Your biggest fear will be the rescue of you " are really confusing lines to me. If anyone has an idea as to what these lines mean, please post it here. Also, does anyone know what "infinitely interesting" thing this song refers to. I think that it's love, but I'm open to suggestions
