Final Thoughts And The Last Day On Earth Lyrics
heaven haunts me kill for a cigarette
heaven is all that i got
my god left me without one word of warning
my god left me waiting is all that i got
i've seen your face before
i've seen your anger crashing down
all my life i've seen your babies
crashing to the ground
my girl brought me comfort to keep me stable
needles paid for comfort is all that i got
my god left me without one word of warning
my god left me
my god is all that i got
i've seen your face before
i've seen your anger crashing down
all my life i've seen your babies
crashing to the ground
don't be afraid
we're all afraid
heaven is all that i got
my god left me without one word of warning
my god left me waiting is all that i got
i've seen your anger crashing down
all my life i've seen your babies
crashing to the ground
needles paid for comfort is all that i got
my god left me
my god is all that i got
i've seen your anger crashing down
all my life i've seen your babies
crashing to the ground
we're all afraid

Well, David Usher is a known athiest, really for a long time--I think this song shows the scary side of atheism, not just the "cool" side (as nowadays people tend to be atheist because it's a trend or they're too "cool" for religion), and how if this is an ideaology, you need to accept the fear along with the philosophy.
"my god left me without one word of warning my god left me waiting is all that i got "
Sort of like, faith leaving you...
"don't be afraid we're all afraid" -- i love this part. :P
Atheism is not some hipster fad or a trendy disco dance it is a belief that there is no god, creator, or diety. Based on your interpretation of the song I assume you have confused atheism with agnosticism. To be afraid of something is to beleive it at least could exist.

I interpret the song as the thoughts of someone who knows they are going to die but the only way to know the true meaning is to ask the artist.
