I think that the line " i believe the sun should never set upon an argument" is less deep than noirblood thinks. I have heard it used a lot and it means tht you never go to bed having had a fight and not cleared it up because then you have to wake up on a breand new day knowing tht you have stuff to sort out. But who knows really, all song lyrics can mean whatever you want or hear them to mean. Enjoy! :)

The song is pretty much simple to sort through and get the meaning. It's pretty clear, dontcha think? I'll explain anyway because it's one of my favorites to listen to when I need to get clear headed.

Daftcat was right. "Sun should never set upon an argument" is basically saying 'Don't ever go to bed mad, cause it'll be worse in the morning.'

"Place our happiness in other people hands' is true as well. We tend to depend on other people to make us happy... to make the day better when in fact it's up to ourselves to make it all better.

"I believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burned."

You'll never know what love is until you've been hurt/heartbroken. You'll never appreciate that someone in your life until you've been hurt by a previous loved one.. 'cause then you'll realize that love is an important thing.

I believe this song is about the lessons that life teaches a person...if they ever get around to paying attention before it's too late to go back and redress mistakes.

It's funny to see how many different ways a person can take the "sun should never set upon an arguement" line. I always thought it was more along the lines of, don't go to bed angry with someone, they might not be there the next morning. Another line I often hear a lot of different opinions about is "I believe that junkfood tastes so good because it's bad for you", some people I know take that at face value, but I think it's saying once someting's 'bad' or forbidden, it's instantly more attractive.

im not a huge fan of this song but i do think that some of the lyrics have good messages behind them. personally, for me these are the ones which i think are important:

"i believe the sun should never set on an argument" this means do not ever leave an argument with someone you love unsolved, forgive and forget.

"I believe we place our happiness in other people's hands" meanig that love is the only thing that can only really make us happy, whether its from family, friends, partners, whatever.

"I believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burned" every break up you learn a lesson, you have to get your heart broken a few times before you find the real thing so do not be too disheartened after a break-up.

"I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye" you don't know how good something is until its gone. whether its through a death, breakup or someone you care about moving house i think this all applies. don;t take anything for granted and enjoy every second of it because one day the time will come to say goodbye.

"I believe in love surviving death into eternity". an amaziingly powerful lyric. to me, i think it means that no matter what happens in the future, because as everyone knows the only certainty in life is that we will die, love lasts longer than death. you still love someone whether they are here with you or dead. everlasting love.

Northofgravity, I agree with what you think that "I believe that wedded bliss negates the need to be undressed", that you don't have to always be physically intimate with your partner to be in love with them. Just being married to them is good enough. I really don't think Darren meant that your sex life dies after marriage, that's rediculous. Anyways, I love this song so much, it's very true and simple, as a lot of you said, and really puts life and the world into perspective for me at times.

I agree with Misseverus and northofgravity, thank you both and lizzy-l as well. I wanted to help about the "I believe forgiveness is the key to your unhapiness" (as I didn't get it as well) I was told that it means that allowing yourself to "forgive" someone in your life gives you the "key" to open and then resolve your "unhapiness". I hope you got it. That makes sense, I got it after I was explained.

The name of this song, Affirmation means "a statement that is true", therefore these are clearly the writer of the song's views on life, love and death as well as other things.

I don't believe this is a religious song, but the line "I believe the sun should never set upon an argument" is a clear reference to Ephesians 4:26 - "Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry" (NIV). It's a very often quoted phrase. I strongly doubt there's anything more to it than that.

I think the "I believe that wedded bliss negates the need to be undressed" means that you shouldn't marry someone for sex (the need to be undressed) rather for them (wedded bliss) or something along those lines.

I just listened to this song for the first time in ages, I really love some of the lyrics. Like, "I believe you can't control or choose your sexuality" or "I believe that God does not endorse TV evangelists"
