i'm going through a pretty lonely and sad time in my life right now (it's summer and all of my friends have gone home).
i've been watching a tv show, roswell actually hehe, and listening to the rest of her album and it's just making me more sad 'cause i want to see all my friends and have adventures, but it's a fantasy and i'm living a boring lonely life. sometimes it feels like nothing will help me feel better and i just pity myself.
this song helps me feel better, so i don't 'slide' into just thinking about roswell and fantasies every waking second and continuing to be depressed. "dream of something else instead."

"Staring at the same four walls, have you tried to help yourself?" is a great line, it's like saying that the person that she's directing this at should stop feeling pity for him or herself, as well as "Think that pain belongs to you but it's happened to us all"...
When I hear this song, I can't help but think it is about someone in prison. Especially the part about "staring at the same four walls." Also I think "when the morning seems so far" is talking about when the person will be released. I have no idea what the person did to be put in prison, but I do think the song is about prison.

Definitely seems like it's drug/alcohol related. Often when people talk about relapsing it's a 'slide'
And making mistakes and being in a self pity for it.
And particularly feeling you feel pain that nobody feels and nobody has felt, and like you need to drown it out.
That's just what I feel about it though. Beautiful song, as just about all of hers are!
