Recently Lyrics
Recently I've been
All of content and dreaming I have been
'Cause I been lately seeing
Quite a bit of this woman live on my street
People stare and we just ignore everything
People stare and we just ignore them
And they go away, go away
She comes to me
I watch her drink
I watch her comb her hair
Both say that we never before have
Felt as recently
People stare and we just ignore
What's the use in hiding out
She says all the time
Let their eyes do the worrying about
She and me go to places quiet
Where we are quite alone
Kiss and we hold together
We will be until we done
People stare and we just ignore
What's the use in hiding out
She says all the time
Let their eyes do the worring about
Walk and talk
We both do quite well
And kissing all the time
Kissing all the time
And I'm looking forward to much more
Both say the we never before
Never before have felt as recently
People stare and we just ignore everything
People stare and we just ignore them
And they go away, go away
All of content and dreaming I have been
'Cause I been lately seeing
Quite a bit of this woman live on my street
People stare and we just ignore everything
People stare and we just ignore them
And they go away, go away
I watch her drink
I watch her comb her hair
Both say that we never before have
Felt as recently

Where we are quite alone
Kiss and we hold together
We will be until we done
What's the use in hiding out

Let their eyes do the worring about
We both do quite well
And kissing all the time
Kissing all the time
And I'm looking forward to much more
Never before have felt as recently
People stare and we just ignore everything
People stare and we just ignore them
And they go away, go away

i couldn't agree more with you guys. but i think that the best version of this song is recorded on red rocks live 95. the last verse is so moving...
I say, "I will give you water, If you will share your wine, And I will feed your heart, If you promise to feed mine." And so we will dance together, Until the end of time, Until the end of time.
Recently is a song about a relationship that Dave had with a girl in Cape Town, South Africa. He basically describes their relationship by saying that the couple isn't afraid of being seen and isn't worried about the other things going on around them. Dave has said that this is one of his favorite songs. This song has many different Intros and Outros.
It's because the girl was black and South Africa is one of the most racist places on Earth (and has been for ages).

im a new fan of this song but it's fun to listen to i heard a version where he sings broadway in the middle of it not sure where its from but hes just so damn cool
think it means once your with the one you love you don't care what other people think or say about you, cause all that matters is if you're happy with the one you love
amen dave. i know exactly what it feels like :)
There is a verse missing in these lyrics.. does anyone know how I could edit it so its right?
Its missing these lines
Walk and talk We both do quite well And kissing all the time Kissing all the time And I'm looking forward to much more
i love this song
the best version of this song that i've heard is on the folsom field album where he starts teh song with something to the effect of some ppl do and some ppl dont...some ppl will and others they wont..i love that part! anyway..good song
The Folsom Field version and the live at... (warehouse) version intro's start simmilarly:
Some people like to drink Some people don't FF: Some people like to get drunk as hell at someone L@: Some people like to smoke a fat one, someone Some people do it Some people don't that's okay that's just the way it's supposed to be hey Some people do, some people don't Some people will and others, they won't Some people do, some people don't (repeat)
I don't know what these have to do with the rest of the song, but I think it's cool how Dave acknowledges that there are people in the world (maybe even his big fans (me for one)) don't drink or smoke pot, but that it's a good thing that everyone doesn't do it.
Great song, I think that there can be many circumstances where some people look down on other's relationships for various resons (interracial, interclass, etc), but if love is true and legitmate then we shouldn't care about what others think. Let them stare, and we'll just ignore.
The Red Rocks version has a lot of improv too.
Great song, seriously.
