There's a little girl
on my mind
all the time
there's always one,
look what she's done

She makes me look at her thighs
you know
I sure hate to lie
but what can I tell her you know it's so
beautiful
man how come all girls think there fat?

[Chorus]
Hey hey hey she's so pretty,
Hey hey hey my friend,
hey hey hey I feel stupid
again.

She said "It's all right,
come over tonight,
my moms not home,
I'm all alone!"
She took me back to her house,
she pushed me down
on the couch,
she said "now its all right,
were gonna be good friends
cause that kissin' only leads to the end."

[Chorus: x2]

Hey hey hey she's so pretty,
Hey hey hey my friend.
Hey hey hey I feel stupid

i thought the strangest thing about this song was that it WASN'T about how girls think they're fat. It sounds like he's talking about being "more than friends" with your friends and screwing up their friendship. I've done that before. Everything except for the screwing up the relationship part. It actually ended pretty well. Actually, it hasn't ended. Hooray.

    lol, I love this song.

Good snowboarding (well, skiing, 'cause I suck at snowboarding) music.

    I love how it "ends."

I'm guessing the "fat" part in the song about girls is how they (we) all think they (we) can get away with what they (we) want.

Well, that's not true, but it's the general message I get.

    Maybe they think that.

The chorus is the greatest. It sounds like it was written by an 8th grader, but seriously I love it.

The new version of the song is changed slightly... "She drinks the tears from my eyes..." is "She makes me look at her thighs, you know I don't have to lie."

I think its about a guy who's into his female friend, but she won't let it go any further, because it will most likely ruin the friendship. He doesn't quite get this, or he doesn't care. Either way, his feelings are out there, and now he's embarassed.

I could have sworn the line "I'm all alone" was "mobile phone" in the original, but I guess that doesn't make much sense because most people did not have cell phones in 1995. Anyway, i liked the original better.

Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
