The consensus seems to be this is just about being stoned off one's ass, but whether, Boyd intended it or not, I see deeper meaning. It's about being to intoxicated, not necessarily from drugs, You see it in his later lyrics about being blinded by society and forced to accept what everyone else thinks. This song is about being steeped so low into what's popular that you can't even find yourself or what you stand for, no matter how hard you try. Then again. the song might just be about drugs, but I think Incubus is onto something more than they might have intended originally.
Forgeting the lyrics, I just love the jazz/rock feel of this song, particularly with that guitar riff at the end.
The story behind this song is that when Incubus were younger, they'd go up in the hills outside Calabasas and smoke weed. They once got very stoned and couldn't find their way back home! Tee, hee! Although it isn't written here, my favourite part of the song is when Brandon says :"I know exactly where we are! Where the fuck are we!?" That is mine and my friend's favourite phrase!
I was driving around listening to all of S.C.I.E.N.C.E while my two friends were on acid with me and one of them says "Hey where are we?" and then that Brandon said "I know exactly where we are! Where the fuck are we!?" and they both just freaked out. haha it was the funniest shit ever to watch happen. I can only imagine what happened Deep Inside both of their heads.

this song is timeless, and makes me feel high just listening to it. but even if i'm not, it doesn't change the fact that this song kicks ass. i love incubus, old and new. you gotta see them live.
