Screams and nightmares
Of a life I want
Can't see living this lie no
A world I haunt
You've lost all control of my
Heart and soul
Satan holds my future
Watch it unfold

I am the Antichrist
It's what I was meant to be
Your God left me behind
And set my soul to be free

Watching disciples
Of the satanic rule
Pentagram of blood
Holds the jackal's truth
Searching for the answer
Christ hasn't come
Awaiting the final moment
The birth of Satan's son

Screams,
From a life I live
Torment,
Is what I give
Torture,
Is what I love
The down fall,
Of the heavens above

I am the Antichrist
All love is lost
Insanity is what I am
Eternally my soul will rot

General CommentDon't criticize a band or its lyrics if you don't know anything about the group. The song cannot possibly have "cliche" lyrics because lyrics like this were never done before Slayer released their first album. Show No Mercy came out in either 1982 or 1983 (I don’t remember), and the only other band like Slayer at the time was Venom. The nu-metal bands that try to mimic the better musicians like those in Slayer have cliche lyrics. Slayer was new and original. The lyrics may seem cliche to someone who doesn't know the first thing about Slayer. This song is awesome and has killer riffs which are fun to play.

General CommentIt's hard to run out of ideas when you're making a song for the first album. When someone writes good and simple lyrics there's always a ignorant that post that the lyrics suck... Slayer Rulez

General CommentI agree somewhat with Leo762. The lyrics are really cliche, but thats to be expected from such a young band at the time that hadn't fully developed their sound.

MetalMilitia1983, lyrics that focus on satanism have been an archetypical feature of Heavy Metal since Black Sabbath's self titled debut album in 1970 and of Thrash since Venom's debut album Welcome to Hell released in 1981. I don't think the early Slayer songs compare (lyrically) in either extremity or craftmanship to Venom, and certainly they weren't the only bands with satanic lyrics at that time. Hells Bells, the opening track from AC/DC's Back in Black released in 1980 was probably the most suceesful/popular/mainstream example.
