Been trying to be cool ever since high school
Cool like the stars and sexy people in bars
The stars will fall they'll line up in the hall
May sound nice, but it's ugly inside
I lost all my pride
Taken apart
One more false start
How do you think we're gonna do this time around
You're the queen of sound
Been trying to hear something complete
No microtones and no backbeat
Been trying to be cool ever since high school
Cool like the stars and sexy people in bars

May sound nice, but it's ugly inside

I can't wait until I graduate. Then I can listen to this song and realize that I've been taken apart from the only world I know and pushed into a new world in which I must start over in order to earn respect, which will never happen. This is what I think of every time I listened to this song. This is only my view, and though it may be completely inaccurate to what the song is trying to portray, it probably will never change. Im completely convinced that life after high school will be the end of me. I'm oblivious to what the meaning of "You're the queen of sound" is. All in all this must be my favorite Nada Surf song, along with "Zen Brain" and "Spooky" and "Stalemate", oh hell they're all amazing. Thank you Nada Surf.
I share your fear. Even though you posted this 4 years ago and you're probably livin' your life now.

I have the exact same fear right now too. Im just going to try and stay positive and see how long that lasts. Its great how songs like this can help though, Nada Surf are amazing.
