Redundant Lyrics

We're living in repetition
Content in the same old shtick again
Now the routine's turning to contention
Like a production line going over and over and over
Roller coaster

Now I cannot speak, I lost my voice
I'm speechless and redundant
'Cause I love you's not enough
I'm lost for words

Choreographed and lack of passion
Prototypes of what we were
Went full circle 'til I'm nauseous
Taken for granted now
Now I waste it, I faked it, I ate it, now I hate it

'Cause I cannot speak, I lost my voice
I'm speechless and redundant
'Cause I love you's not enough
I'm lost for words, now I cannot speak

Now I cannot speak, I lost my voice
I'm speechless and redundant
'Cause I love you's not enough
I'm lost for words

I think it probably is that "I love you" isn't enough to make everything good again when they fight... yeah, I hadn't really thought of that before. Gotta love SongMeanings!

almost 10 years after, i fully agree with you :)

Is it possible that this relationship is the same one as in Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)? It seems Good Riddance could have been the end of the same relationship. Both involve a very loving but tired relationship that was once amazing and has faded to nothing. If so, "I love you" obviously wasn't enough.

I think more than that, he's trying to find a way to apologize to her, and it's gotten to the point where he can't just "I love you" his way out of it anymore. He doesn't know how else to defend whatever it is she's mad about, but their love is old enough that "I love you" isn't powerful anymore.

Sounds to me like it's the same old relationship, day in and day out. But nonetheless, at the end of the day, he still loves her to pieces.

'Cause "I love you"'s not enough; I'm lost for words. - meaning that he still loves her so much he can't explain it, even though frankly he's a little bored with the routine.

Or, that the so-called routine relationship is exactly what he's always wanted, and he makes it sound like it's boring although it makes him love her even more for having a relationship like that.

My Opinion

Most people seem to be in agreement that this song is about a failing relationship, but hear me out anyway. Notice how he says "you's" and not you? "'Cause I love you's not enough". Plural right? For me it's about having an eventual falling out with a group of friends. Something happens and things change, but you try to stick around, for whatever reason. Things go wrong though. I'm not gonna get any more specific than that. I mean... there are far too many people on this site seeking sympathy from strangers, no one needs to hear personal examples. But yeah, that's what the song means to me and how I interpret it. I hope that helps.

My Interpretation

"you's" is just a contraction for "you is". however, your general idea is right because the word "you" can be singular or plural.

This entire interpretation is inaccurate because you's is not the plural as you and it is not used so in this song. It is a contraction of you and is, so the grammatically correct way of saying the lyric would be, "I love you is not enough." Therefore, your point is invalid. Sorry.

Although I guess since you could be both plural or singular, it gives your point validation. I do quite like your interpretation, to be honest. It's more plausible than the whole failing relationship thing, and it's definitely more interesting.

Most people tend to say this song is about a failed relationship. Personally I think it's about falling for someone. The person in the song wants to make a move on the other because the time they spend together is always very repetitive. The person can't speak and are at a loss for words because saying, "I love you," isn't enough to describe how much the person in the song wants the other one.

My Interpretation

@SouthParkGirl I agree. I think it's about loving someone long distance (such as when BJ is on tour). There are only so many ways to tell a person you love them when all you really want is to have them physically there.

I really, really like this song. It's my favorite song off Nimrod. The verses are about a relationship that's starting to go bad... it's getting to be the same old thing all over again, and he's getting sick of it. But the chorus implies that he still loves her, even though it feels like it's been said too many times before and it's not enough.
